On Raising a Son Alone - Blog Entry

26 May 2009 02:59 PM

I'm not a single parent, our problem is we are both men and we have a daughter, the same problem with our middle child, he is three, he has grasped that he was born to a mum, but he can't seem to grasp that he has a bio dad too, our oldest is 5 and gets it though, so hopefully being a bit older will help him understand the situation better.

We don't have dog parks in the UK, you just go to a normal park.

Parents Call Police Because Grown Son Won't Clean Room - Blog Entry

Getting angry and throwing food is something we expect from our two year old! To be fair though, if they are letting him live rent free and he doesn't have to ever lift his finger in the house, his parents can't be shocked when he is lazy!

Book Review: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Adoption - Blog Entry

24 May 2009 03:40 PM

I've read a few guide books to adoption myself (UK ones) but I have always found the guide suggests and the reality to be totally different, before we had children my husband was a social worker, who worked in placement. He says himself that you should never read an adoption guide by an author as social services have to read them and none have the correct adoption procedure. Nearly all adoptions books about UK adoption talk about costs into thousands of pounds, adoption is free in the UK!

The Art of Holding Hands - Blog Entry

We don't in public, Frank is a lot shorter than me so if we hold hands standing up it is really awkward, I wouldn't want to get odd looks either really. Now because of the kids having a hand free for anything is a bonus.

All Wal-marts in the UK sell CD's with the advisory sticker, in the US, do they also not sell any other age restricted product?

A Place of Refuge: Ronald McDonald House Charities - Blog Entry

Here when a child is ill in hospital they are placed in a family room to ensure that their family can stay with them, if it is a single night stay and the parents don't want to stay they can be placed on a normal children's ward. When a foster child of ours was treated at Great Ormond street, her room was part of a flat that we lived in for just over a week. We have an NHS, so you don't have to pay for any of this.

What Would You Change? - Blog Entry

I don't see the point of inviting people who don't need to be there, its about two people, not 50+ friends and family.

We would of invited less people, as in just us the kids and two witnesses.

Do You Floss? - Blog Entry

15 May 2009 04:40 AM

We don't use floss here, we used interdentals as flossing doesn't remove plaque very well or toughen the gums. They come in different sizes dependent of the gaps between each tooth. There is a picture in the link.
