I have two kids too and got an epi both times. With my first I had a recovery like you had with your son: I tore and I bled for at least 7 weeks after. But with my second I didn't tear and only had bleeding for a few weeks. And it was actually with my second that I had a harder time feeling the pushing. So it's possible that the difference for you was just because every birth is simply different! Gender Tests - Blog Entry06 Jun 2010 05:51 PM For the $10 one, it was worth the try just for fun. But I agree with you - there's no way I'd pay $35 for such a test! Even if I had to pay closer to $50 for an elective ultrasound, I'd rather pay the little bit extra and get to actually SEE the baby (and hopefully his/her "parts"). My Doughnut Cravings Were Nothing To Joke About - Blog Entry12 May 2010 07:44 PM My husband did that to me just last night! I sent him out for a Butterfinger "blizzard" from a local ice cream shop. He comes home awhile later and announces that the shop isn't open on Tuesdays. I walk over (not seeing what was behind him) and he shrugs and says, "Well... sorry..." I couldn't decide if I was going to be mad or sad! I was just blown away that he dared to come home to his pregnant wife empty handed! Happily for us both he had gone to the Sonic down the road and not only gotten my ice cream, but also the tater tots that I'd mentioned I was craving earlier. Silly men need to learn not to mess with us! Switching to a Single Income - Tips for Saving Money - Blog Entry26 Apr 2010 01:57 PM It definitely pays to plan ahead if you can! My husband and I always knew that I wanted to stay home when we had childrent, so even though I had a career for 5 years we never got used to using "my" money for our expenses. The income I brought in was used to pay down our house and finance some of the extras that we wanted to enjoy before children came, but we worked hard up front to make sure all of our budget items were covered by my husband's income. I highly recommend to anyone planning on, or considering, staying home with a baby someday to work on shifting the budget to one income as soon as possible. It will make the transition SO much easier! Go Ahead, Be a Cheapskate! - Blog Entry19 Apr 2010 05:07 PM After I had my daughter and before my period returned, I definitely took my share of pregnancy tests! I did just as you suggested and hit my local dollar store. I bought 5 or 6 tests at the same price as 1 or 2 of the "good" kind. My plan was always to use a cheap test first and if it came up positive I could use a more expensive one to confirm. Only buying 1 expensive test sure beat buying loads of them for those unsure moments! Maternity Swimsuit Options - Blog Entry16 Apr 2010 06:10 AM I ordered a maternity suit from Motherhood Maternity and it just arrived yesterday. I think I'm going to love it! I'm not comfortable with a bikini and big preggo belly, but don't like one piece suits, so I went with a cute tankini. It's longer than normal ones so it should give me pretty good coverage as I grow. And it was only $30 for both pieces! That's cheaper than a lot of regular suits! I like getting a new suit every year or two anyway, so I didn't mind going ahead and getting a maternity one that I'll be comfortable in this year. For $30, I won't be too upset if this is the only year I get to wear it. Not Overdue: Just Not Ready - Blog Entry13 Apr 2010 06:16 AM My doctor doesn't let patients go more than 1 week past their due date. She says that the risks for complications get higher as you get later and those risks outweigh the risk that you might be "evicting" baby a week or so before "ready." I suppose they assume that due dates are potentially 2 weeks off in either direction. Once you are 1 week past that due date, at worst you would be inducing 1 week "early" (39 weeks) which is still generally safe for the baby. But for the most part I agree with you. I was so anxious to be done being pregnant and meet my daughter, and had been given the option to induce on the 16th (her due date was the 22nd), but we decided to give her some time. And she arrived right on the 22nd! Misdiagnosed Miscarriages - Blog Entry07 Apr 2010 06:00 AM Thankfully I was not actually diagnosed with a miscarriage, but I also had a lot of bleeding in my first trimester. Just shy of 12 weeks I rushed to the ER with heavy bleeding and was given a report of a "threatened miscarriage" when they were unsure if I would lose the baby or not. This is one of the reasons that I think early ultrasounds aren't so wonderful. I admit to feeling a bit jealous of some women who get ultrasounds early in pregnancy while I have to wait for 20 weeks, but I've also seen a lot of them worry because they didn't see what they expected to see so early on! The fact is that all babies develop differently, right from the very start. Second Pregnancies Really Pop! - Blog Entry04 Apr 2010 05:14 AM You're not kidding! I have a feeling I'll be going along the path Jacky did... 2 months pregnant now and already using the rubber-band-around-the-jeans-button trick to be more comfortable. I started wearing maternity stuff around 16 weeks last time, definitely going to be sooner this time around! When Your Ring No Longer Fits - Blog Entry26 Mar 2010 06:50 PM I did the same as you! Wore my wedding ring as a necklace and got a "stand in" ring until after having the baby. |
