At the middle school, of course, the teachers don't wait with students. At the elementary school, however, they do wait w/the school club kids. I have been on time so far this year. I was awful when the kids were in preschool though, and it was very embarassing to pull up late and have to apologize profusely for my tardiness. The teachers were always very nice about it (and as I mentioned, I did get dinged for a fee when late; but I never protested because I thought it was fair). I agree w/Andrea's entire comment and am happy to have broken my bad habit! The Tough Job of Monitoring Media09 Nov 2009 11:37 AM This blog post really hits home. I wrote an entry on my own blog on the same topic because this absolutely drives me crazy. ("Sex on TV and its Impact on Kids: Well, Duh!" http://wp.me/prQYR-b9). What's frustrating is how pervasive it is, even on supposedly family-friendly shows. I agree with you, Mary Ann. The best way to deal with it is to watch tv as a family, so you can moniter and address anything inappropriate right then and there. Parents Outraged After School Imposes Late Fee09 Nov 2009 11:19 AM As a mom who is chronically 10 minutes late (although I am working on it and getting better!) I have no problem with this. I had to pay when I was late picking up at pre-school, why not elementary school? Why on earth would people expect what amounts to free childcare? If someone has to stand around and watch your child after school is over because you're running late, I think you should have to pay for their time. |
