Emphasize the Spiritual Events of Easter - Blog Entry23 Apr 2007 05:35 PM With a baby born the day after Easter, I didn't spend as much time on the subject this year as I have in previous years. (Thankfully, the kids still remembered the previous years.) We still had the Easter bunny visit that night, but we always do the Easter egg hunt on Saturday (incidentally, this created problems with my dh's family traditions before we moved out of state). We also added what I think will be a new Easter tradition to our list. We usually make our own Easter baskets from paper bags, and this year we made some for the kids of a broke single mom. I told the kids that the Easter bunny can't come if you don't have baskets, and they didn't have enough money to have baskets. The kids contributed some candy from their Easter egg hunt; we rang the doorbell and ran away. While this didn't necessarily teach about Easter, it helped us bring some Christlike service into the Easter bunny's actions. I try to encourage my kids to take a few seconds to think about their prayers before saying them. (Sometimes that gives me time to think about my prayers, as well.)
