LOL. his generally takes a little prodding, but often, it just takes a little bit to get some relief. Otherwise, after nursing three kids, I'm in the 'get all the sleep possible' camp, as well! Dealing with Stereotypes about Homeschoolers - Blog Entry25 Jan 2007 04:49 PM Put me down for the "sweat pants/no make-up/bleary eyed" catagory! ;) Andrea, I didn't realize she was shunned by folks at a store, I thought it was an HS group. And I definitely agree that she overreacted and didn't need to lash out at any group. College Classes and the Homeschooler: Auditing Classes - Blog Entry25 Jan 2007 04:21 PM Awesome! I hadn't thought about auditing classes, but what a great way to ease our kids in (well, when mine are older, LOL). Thanks for the information! Homeschooling while pregnant - Blog Entry25 Jan 2007 04:20 PM Great blog! If only I'd read it a few mos ago (I'm due in April). We also added a move to the mix. Thankfully, my kids are still small (oldest is only 5, although after reading Valorie's blog about her son, I'm wondering if I'm behind, LOL), so I'm trying to keep things light; lots of reading and writing, and they love worksheets. I know my energy peaks in the morning and then goes downhill from there, so we do whatever 'formal' stuff we are going to do in the morning, and then just sort of having free reading, play, or whatever time in the afternoon. Well, actually, we are napping, so it's quiet time after lunch so poor mom can sleep, LOL. I should be kicking up in the energy level soon, so I guess I should start the post-partum activity plans. Blogging: An unconventional writing curriculum - Blog Entry24 Jan 2007 10:04 PM A fantastic plan! I would also recommend taking a look at writing.com (here's my port: http://www.writing.com/main/view_item/user_id/scottiegaz) You can set up a free membership and put 10 items on, and get 'reviews' for feedback. You can also set up parental access (not sure how that works since mine aren't online) and can allow items to be accessed only be predetermined groups (ie family and friends). There are other stories to read and review, and I know the parental content allows you to set the rating allowed; and their rating is stricter than, say, the movie theaters. Teaching various ages: the challenge - Blog Entry24 Jan 2007 10:00 PM You'd think my 2 year old would learn that; he wants to do everything his brother does. My kids are driving me crazy because they always want to do the same thing. I'm having a hard time persuading my oldest that what her little brother is doing is too easy for her (he's learning to read and she's reading obnoxiously fast), or vice versa. ARGH! Dealing with Stereotypes about Homeschoolers - Blog Entry24 Jan 2007 09:59 PM Great feedback for dealing with comments. That said, she was probably just lashing out because she was hurt; people tend to think of their blog as a journal and throw things out without thinking much. If they really were rude and snobby, I can see where she was coming from. Maybe she could use a friendly suggestion to locate a HS group that fits her needs a bit better, one a bit more relaxed? It sounds like she doesn't quite mesh with her current group. Whom the Lord Calls, He Qualifies - Blog Entry24 Jan 2007 09:48 PM Thanks for the encouragement! I'm really looking forward to serving! When the World is Your Classroom, It Can Wear You Out - Blog Entry24 Jan 2007 08:40 AM Sounds like you are on your toes today! Err, yesterday. The other benefit to HSing, of course, is that you can schedule today to be more relaxed if you want (depending on your other activity schedule). Teaching various ages: the challenge - Blog Entry24 Jan 2007 08:38 AM I struggle enough with a 5 yo, 4 yo, and 2 yo; at least the older two can work fairly well on similar things. I can't wait for another few years when I have a 12 yo and a 6 yo! LOL.
