Thoughts on Home schooling a Gifted Child - Blog Entry

Wow, how awesome! I have the same confidence level in myself, and though my kids aren't quite that fast, they turn some pretty quick mental tricks that leave me adding up their age to make sure I didn't miss a year or two. I'd consider upping the 'fun' math and physics books you leave lying around. For instance, the more he wants to learn about physics, the more he'll wind up teaching himself about math. But, yeah, sounds like he's going to outrun you by the time he's seven or eight, LOL! He is definitely one you want to homeschool; can you imagine sending him to school to learn about 2+2?

Like Michelle, I'm interested in following this story!

Homeschooling: A Good Alternative to a Lavish Education pt. II - Blog Entry

Great article. We are just starting out homeschooling - my oldest is 5 - and are on a tight budget. There are tons of things I plan to do as they get older, and would love to do when we get more money (we are in the process of paying off our debts) that I think would be enriching. That said, there is a lot to be said for creativity and giving the kids a chance to see what they can come up with out of 'nothing', or just regular stuff they can find around the house. I look forward to that, as well. (But I'm the geek whose husband gets irritated because I insist that the kids and work together on their Halloween costumes and see how creatively we can make them, so....)

But an expensive educaton usually means a more one-on-one education, which we get as we homeschool our kids.

One of my favorite tools for scripture study are the institute manuals. I got the entire set - old testament, new testament, book of mormon, and doctrine and covenants - in a lds college student house; no one else wanted them. They are full with historical information and gospel quotes, and I treasure them!

Make sure you doublecheck #2. One of my favorite books - not quite on the subject, but it touches on it - is "Believing Christ", which does a great job of illustrating why we shouldn't worry about keeping up. As for me, I'm glad we're supposed to run at our own pace. My kids already wear me out, and I just couldn't do 12! LOL.

Families - Do We HAVE To Be Together Forever? - Blog Entry

Oh, yes, my dad had the same problems when he came down to stay with us. He lives by himself in the country, and can only take my kids in 30 minute increments!

Primaryleaderidaho, your story made me think about how it must feel to not be sealed to your family and know that you could have. As for the pioneers - didn't they make some of the kids walk for a period of time? My 5 yo gets cranky about not stretching her legs more than once every 2 hours; then again, so do I. "So you want to poke your brother? Get out and walk!" (I say that jokingly, but I know that riding wasn't generally an option, especially in a handcart. But I bet the kids were too exhausted to complain "he's looking at me!")

Thanks for your comments, guys! I appreciate you reading.

General Conference: "The Law of Tithing" - Blog Entry

I've talked about having our tithing sent from our bank, because with three kids we have a hard time just GIVING the tithing to the leaders at times. But my husband contends you need the tithing slip, rather than just putting a 'note' in the notes section.
