Blockbuster vs. Netflix - Blog Entry

04 Dec 2006 08:17 PM

We were considering doing this but weren't sure how well it would pan out with our new always-on-the-road schedule. You only get a coupon when you return a movie to the store right? We were trying to decide about a frequent check out program, but then again, our situation is weird/unique anyway. :D

I'd Like You To Meet My Boyfriend--When Teenagers Bring Their Boyfriend/Girlfriend Home - Blog Entry

Great article, and some great advice. I had a boyfriend over for Thanksgiving one year...my mom had a food fight and flung mashed potatos at him. Poor guy didn't know how to respond. How embarressing! LOL

Holiday Scrooges: No Santa For Kindergarteners And Problems For Pancake Lovers - Blog Entry

Nice pancake issue. I'd tell them to take a hike. Then again, I'd probably not be seated anyway since I rarely have my license with me; dh does most of the driving!

I've been wondering when Santa would get banned. It wouldn't surprise me if it caught on in the next few years. After all, Santa = Christmas anyway....

Are You Considering Moving in with Your Parents to Save Money? - Blog Entry

04 Dec 2006 08:07 PM

If I moved in with my mom, one of us would end up committing murder. After she moved to the same state, we learned that a long-distance relationship works SO much better for us - she was actually happy when we moved out of state two and a half years later! LOL

The Homeschoolers' Advent Calendar: Christmas Science - Blog Entry

Thanks for all the great resources! I remember our first year online, we tracked Santa. Of course, that was for my little brother, not my kids. Next up, some Santa physics worksheets! LOL. My high school physics teacher was always good at coming up with creative demonstrations. "If the reindeer accelerate at x m/s..."

What Your Second Grader Should Know: Science - Blog Entry

Just a note: while it is DEFINATELY more pleasent to observe astronomy in the summer, the visibility is way better in the winter! The cold actually reduces the particles (dirt, dust, pollution) in the sky and provides a better view; that's why the stars really DO look brighter and more brilliant in the winter. Sky & Telescope magazine is made for observers and will tell you about upcoming meteor showers, etc on their website, and if you have telescope observers, the moon is usually the best bet, followed by some of the planets (Mars, Jupiter, and depending on your scope you can see the rings of Saturn sometimes with a 'regular' one). I worked in the planetarium while in college (Astrophysics/Creative writing major) and you would be amazed at how many kids - including kindergardeners - loved the planets and the stars. We had one kindergardener identify the Kuiper belt - that's the astroid belt behind Pluto where the comets 'come' from. Kids are amazing when they are fascinated!
