Do You Have Extra Paychecks? - Blog Entry

03 Dec 2006 01:46 PM

The problem with 'extra' paychecks when you are paid biweekly is that your whole payment schedule shifts and it takes awhile for the 'extra' money to show up. We pay our bills when each paycheck is deposited, and so if we don't use a check or regard it as 'extra' something winds up being paid late. My dh has a hard time understanding the 'problem' - that the mortgage company and utilities are billed the same day of the month, regardless of when our check comes in. This has caused us more than one money fight because, until we sat down and talked over every bill and paycheck at the start of the month, he thought we were 'losing' money somewhere if the extra check didn't stay in our account.

Are You Considering Moving in with Your Parents to Save Money? - Blog Entry

03 Dec 2006 01:40 PM

I wish I had read this before moving in with my inlaws! We moved in right after we were married, about a month before our first child was born. Ugh, the stress and the strain! We failed to discuss boundries, and it was just difficult; add to that the fact of a new baby and first grandchild ... ugh! We were very fortunate to be able to rely on them, but for us, it just wasn't a working solution.

Study Says Mom's Recorded Voice Works Best To Rouse Sleepy Kids - Blog Entry

02 Dec 2006 03:56 PM

Hmm, I'm seriously thinking about just using my voice (recorded) as a regular alarm clock. I know you can get CD-playing alarm clocks. I wonder if my MILs voice would work on my husband? Then again, I'm not sure I could handle adding that to my morning routine... ;)

The sister missionaries were my favorite! I was worried about them, being at the bottom of the list!

Teresa, my dad told me the same thing about believing in Santa. As far as he knows, I still believe in Santa....

Hip Baby Clothes- A Reflection Of Parents Own Fashion Style - Blog Entry

01 Dec 2006 01:04 PM

I agree with Teresa. I have a huge problem with the inappropriate clothes a lot of five to seven year olds are wearing - tight clothes, revealing clothes. The idea of dressing an infant similarly is ridiculous! Of course, I have a hard time with the idea of paying $100 for a piece of clothing my kids will outgrow in a year, much less a month. Call me weird.

The Cost of Homeschooling - Blog Entry

We're in the early stages - oldest is 5 - and since we are on the road (living in an RV) we have no lessons. But I wanted to say, my favorite store since I was about 5 has always been the used book store, which makes for a great place to pick up used chapter books. You don't get the same sort of selection as you might find ordering books new off the Internet, but you generally can't beat the price, and since my books will be well used (and, in the case of smaller kids, well eaten), it makes more sense! It also lets you get more books for less in the same budget. ;)

Kid Fitness: Three in Ten Children Are Obese - Blog Entry

01 Dec 2006 12:49 PM

I worry about my kids, since the deck is half stacked against them. My parents are both out of shape, but my inlaws are both obese. Because I have 'good genes', I don't make the best nutritional decisions; I'm one of those people who weighed only 5 lbs more after I had three kids than I did in college, and I still can't give blood. I'm trying to re-educate and improve my choices for my kids' sake, but changing after 25 years is difficult, albeit easier than changing after 40 years.

Are you a Mary or a Martha? - Blog Entry

01 Dec 2006 12:42 PM

Sometimes it is so hard to balance the spiritual with the temporal, especially with two small kids. It would be great to fill up all of my time (and my kids time) with spiritual activities, but dh gets all grouchy if I don't make dinner...my kids whine a bit about it too, LOL. Hopefully by the time my oldest is 18 I'll have figured out a good sense of balance for toddlers; maybe I'll get the sense of balance with teens by the time I have grandkids. Great post! I wish I could do a better job of implementing things I know to be true.
