3 Ways to Save Money at a Garage Sale - Blog Entry

02 Jun 2008 07:25 AM

Mary Ann, great article. We garage saled it this weekend (instead of hosting our own with the neighborhood) and I wound up using tip #3. This lady was selling all of her rubber stamps and craft stupplies. The stamps were the only thing I wanted. There were dozens I knew that I would use and my kids would love them too. Overall there had to be about 200 of them and she had them separated into groups in bags, except they appeared to have no theme, so if I wanted all the horse stamps I had to buy like six bags that were marked between $6 and $8.

I had my saleswoman friend with me and she looks at the lady and says "Would you take $50 for everything?" So I wound up taking home what easily would have taken me $300 just to buy the stamps I actually liked online or at the store, and wound up with probably 150 extra that we will now sell. (either at our own sale, or ebay) Oh and we counted up her prices on all the bags and she was looking to make a total of $129 for everything that was still there. So we definitely got the better deal. I think she was just glad to see them go.

Great tips! Keep them coming!

Why So Many Parents Homeschool "Problem" Children - Blog Entry

30 May 2008 09:07 AM

What a well written article Andrea. I loved this, and it spoke to my heart. I homeschool my "problem" child and he's a great kid. One of the smartest I know! He was smart enough to get into the gifted program at school - he just wasn't "good" enough - kwim?

Anyway, this article spoke volumes and I feel horrible for that five year old little boy. Our society is becoming less tolerant by the second and it makes me ashamed to call it "home" sometimes.

All I can do is be the best parent I can, protect my kids fiercely and lick the wounds and wipe the tears when the world crashes around them.

Again, thanks for a great article!

I wound up making my own. But that's because the frugal side of me came out. It isn't that difficult and I wound up using wood as the base. I will try to plan an entry about it soon. The price was just far too steep.

Lauren, you are so welcome. I am always happy to hear about stories that turn out well, since we all know they don't always. Best wishes on your eventual meeting. I cannot tell you what a major thing it was for me. I am so happy for you!

That's so weird Mary Ann. But then I guess it pays to shop around as I say all the time. Ours is almost a dollar a gallon more at our gas stations and convenience stores than at our shop and save grocery store. (that's the cheaper grocery store). It is interesting how much things are different in different areas. Thanks for the comment :)
