Journaling Written By Hand - Blog Entry

20 Sep 2006 08:34 PM

I like mine too. There are times when I get annoyed with how it looks, but overall I'm happy with it. And knowing the emotions and feelings it can evoke, keeps me doing it anyway, no matter how I feel. Plus I can see that the more I do it the better it looks anyway. Thanks for your thoughts Megan. I cannot believe how much we have in common :)

When Should Kids Start Their Homework? - Blog Entry

19 Sep 2006 08:16 AM

First, well written article. I appreciated hearing your opinion on this because it's a topic we discuss often in our home. I'm one of those parents that has to disagree with you a little here though. I am a parent of a second grader, third grader, fourth grader and two sixth graders, as well as a former teacher. I do not require our children to begin their homework immediately after school for the simple reason that they just spent eight hours at school expected to sit at a desk, do work and then come home. They need to run off some energy, they need to have some fun. They will work harder on it if they are refreshed and feeling good. I have seen how hard it is for them to concentrate when they first get home, because they were cooped up all day. Typically we ask them to begin their homework just before dinner. They then take a break to eat dinner and go back to it afterwards. This has actually worked out well, and often they finish it before dinner allowing them some time to play outside and with their friends just following our meal. Kids needs breaks, and a ride home on the bus or car is not enough of a break to refresh them. That's my opinion. I'm eager to hear others.

I enjoyed this article and poll Myra! Thanks!
