My grandmother was a major frugal lady and she used to do the weirdest things with products. So we all started doing them too. Along the way I've kept notes on other ways to use products. I have even thrown piece of apples down. It doesn't have the same effect, but I think the hardness of the apples helps clean the blades which helps nothing be "gunked on".
