Looking for the Good When Things Look Bad (Some Holiday Thoughts) - Blog Entry

Thanks for your inspiring comments, LadyElizabeth! I completely agree that the challenges in our lives are the catalysts for change; we become better human beings as a result of our struggles.

I like your description of "Forged in the Refiner's Fire" and have ordered it from Amazon.com. Thanks for the suggestion!

Teens and Gaming: Is It BAD for Them? - Blog Entry

Wow, Jennifer, you and your husband were so strong to be able to enforce your video game ban! If you don't mind my asking, how old was your stepson at the time? And how long did his anger last?

Thanks!

Online Dating - Blog Entry

06 Apr 2006 05:00 AM

Interesting article! I think that online dating is no more or less likely to work out that any other method of meeting people. People shouldn't make the mistake of assuming that they know everything about their "match," or that the two of them are "perfect" for each other just because "xx measures of compatability" suggest that they are.

Online dating is how I met my dear sweet soulmate (we'll be together three years in July). So I'm never going to knock it! But although we worked out beautifully, I met a number of men via online dating who didn't! That's why I think that it can work, but like anything else, there are no guarantees.

Self-Employed, Homeschooling Single Parent Considering a Master's Program - Am I Crazy? - Blog Entry

06 Apr 2006 04:52 AM

Wow, you really have your hands full. Your additional education in ESLmay work out well for you; I hope it does.

Actually I'm thinking about writing something here at the blog about the effects on kids of their parent's mental illness. Personally, I've been in therapy for three-and-a-half years and take an antidepressant and ADHD medication. I have to think that a parent's psychological issues affect his/her parenting abilities. What do you think, jude2004?

Dating Advice for Single Moms (from "Mars and Venus Starting Over" by John Gray, Ph.D.) - Blog Entry

02 Apr 2006 05:39 AM

Asng3017 and jude2004, thanks for your comments! I don't expect everyone to agree with me and I respect your opinions about this. It may be that the book needs updating since it was published eight years ago; it would make sense, for example, if Gray acknowledged the fact that men are single parents too!

Thanks again for reading here! It helps me to know how other single parents are thinking and feeling.

Life Coaching for Single Parents: An Interview with Kristi McClanahan, ACG - Blog Entry

02 Apr 2006 05:31 AM

You are absolutely right that life coaching is not therapy. Kristi made this very clear to me when I spoke with her. It's not their function, nor are they trained, to explore WHY you act the way you do -- to determine if something in your childhood, for example, has caused you to think and feel a certain way today. That's a therapist's job. The life coach's job is to help you develop your own ideas for how to improve your life, to help you identify things that will work for you. So I agree with you completely that life coaching is not therapy. If it feels like it is, then it's time to find a new coach!

Room-By-Room Personal Property Inventory - Blog Entry

Hi Anna! What do you think of the idea of going from room to room and making a video of all the belongings in your home? Is that worth doing? Or is it better make written lists?

Thanks!
