In my quest to find a concise book to recommend to parents or adults with SPD, I've found my favorite! It's the Sensory Processing Disorder ANSWER Book by Tara Delaney . It's written in a Q&A format (with questions that parents actually ask) making it easy to look up & find your answers immediately. This book organizes the sea of knowledge floating around about Sensory Processing Disorder into a coherent and useful ANSWER resource. The author (who's an OT) does an amazing job of breaking down the science of this disorder using layman's terms, and explaining how that affects a person's ability to interact with people and things in the environment. She describes how sensory processing disorder affects individuals with Autism, ADD, ADHD, Fragile X, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, and even babies born premature or children adopted from overcrowded orphanages. Anyone (especially family members and friends who just don't get it) looking to understand this disorder without getting lost in the clinical jargon, should read this book. So after you've learned everything there is to know about Sensory Processing Disorder, what do you do? Well, the book also provides a plethora of useful everyday strategies, therapeutic activities, and lists of top books, links, websites, and resources. Enjoy! No comments on this article yet.
