I work in an animal hospital and personally my biggest issue w/ having these types of pets is that small children usually don't know how to handle them and end up seriously injuring these pets and the parents aren't willing to pay to treat such a small creature (medical bills can get to be several hundred just like dogs or cats). These pets end up being euthanized because someone thought a 3 yr old could properly handle a hamster w/out squeezing it or a snake w/out trying to bend it in half or a bird w/out trying to pluck out the pretty feathers. Spending Time in the Kitchen - Blog Entry09 Oct 2008 10:03 PM I bought one of those little books that can be taken to the grocery store w/ you to check when chemicals are safe, cause allergic reactions, etc. It was very enlightening and frightening at the same time. Line Your Intestines, Lose Weight! - Blog Entry09 Oct 2008 09:54 PM Ewwww! I definitely agree w/ you that they'll probably end up malnurished. Weight a Minute: Go Up a Size Without Gaining an Ounce! - Blog Entry09 Oct 2008 08:55 PM Truthfully, clothing sizes had shifted quite a bit since 1950s in the other direction. What is now a size 2 used to be a size 6 or 8. What you're seeing might be a bit of a market correction. I'm not myself a small person and I understand why it's disconcerting. New Jersey Legislature Turns on Homeschoolers - Blog Entry02 Oct 2008 02:09 PM Jesus... I can't believe what they're trying to do. They might as well outlaw homeschooling outright, instead of attempting to be so covert. Three Ways Your Crockpot Saves Money - Blog Entry29 Sep 2008 10:29 PM I used to have a crockpot. I seriously need another one now that I'm working FT again. How Much Does It Cost to Eat at Home? - Blog Entry29 Sep 2008 10:14 PM I finally got my bf to try and eat better for our daughter, which means he's not really eating out anymore (except subway). He had no idea how much he really was spending on eating out (1-2 meals daily @ $8+). Are you Raising a Mini Fashionista? - Blog Entry29 Sep 2008 02:40 PM It really is sad that people put so much money in to a child's wardrobe. One of the girls I work w/ buys her 4 yr old Nikes, Levis, and other name brands and then complains that she has no money to go out and do things w/ her family or to pay important bills for that matter. I spent $9 on a winter outfit for my 1 yr old and felt like I spent way too much money. Normally I buy at surplus stores, like Factory 2 U, TJ Maxx, etc., clearance racks (I bought more than a dozen really cute t-shirts for $1 each that were transitional cotton from WM), and out of season clothes that are a few sizes bigger. |
