We've been discovering some of the same things lately. One thing we've managed to institute is a family meeting each night. We might not all eat at the same time, but by getting together, me and my husband are able to agree to a punishment, to rewards, to answers to questions the children ask and to hear about each of the kid's school day. Walking - Is it better to do it incrementally or all in one go? - Blog Entry09 Sep 2006 09:52 PM Thanks for the article, Heather. I walk quite frequently. I've found it helps to know how many miles each of our routes we travel through our neighborhood. We found out by driving the same path and clocking it on the odometer. We have a 1 mile, 3 mile and 4 mile route and the last two both have an uphill section. Shortbread Squares With Walnuts - Blog Entry09 Sep 2006 09:49 PM I had no idea shortbread was so easy to make. I love it. Of course, I can't afford the calories, still, there will be times to cheat. Thanks for the recipe! Emotional Intelligence and Clear Communication - Blog Entry08 Sep 2006 05:50 PM Megan, good article. I loved Cairns when I visited. I was taught the same formula "The formula for clear communication is: I feel... (affect), when you... (behavior), because... (cognitions)." It's one that isn't very easy to remember when you're emotional. But practice helps. Five Things to Consider Before Adding a Gun to Your Emergency Kit - Blog Entry05 Sep 2006 10:35 PM Good article, Miriam. But you forgot one other point. If you live near the Canadian or Mexican border, you need to plan ahead before taking a gun across the border. Reading for Cultural Enlightenment - Blog Entry04 Sep 2006 10:47 AM Tristi, Good article about having a wide spread reading selection. I love historical novels. I'm writing science fiction myself, so use history in the form of where I see current events going in the future. So I read a lot of history. I'll look at more of your reviews. When a TV Hero Dies - Blog Entry04 Sep 2006 10:44 AM Cathy, good memorial for Steve Irwin. It seems that the more risk you put yourself into, the more you're likely to die or get injured. I'm glad there are daring souls who chose to explore in the name of knowledge. The Desktop: The Mt. Everest of Clutter - Blog Entry03 Sep 2006 11:43 PM Marjorie, we share a table that is cluttered. I was amused by your discussion. I put all my bills stubs into folders and save. But recently, I found a box with these stubs from 1992 -- it used to be you were required to store your tax data for 7 years, now its been changed to 3 years, what a relief! Fun With Poetry - Blog Entry01 Sep 2006 03:09 PM Hi Teresa, good suggestions. We're doing a limerick Christmas letter this year in our family. We went to Ireland and had to write some in Limerick. Funny thing was, the airport in Limerick didn't even sell books of limericks, I had to find them elsewhere. New Twists on Coleslaw - Blog Entry31 Aug 2006 01:02 PM Interesting article, Libby. I hated coleslaw, too. But now, a number of restaurants have offered coleslaw made with a vinagrette (one uses Asian poppyseed) and I like it that way. I don't like anything with mayonaise. |
