White elephant gift exchanges are fun and perfect for the budget

On several occasions I've taken part in white elephant gift exchanges and they have been a lot of fun. The idea is to reuse something old that you know someone won't want, with the idea of making them laugh. When we moved into our home, we were left with lots of garbage stored on the property.

For the Less than Perfect Cook

I did some early Christmas baking and tried to spice up the same old sugar cookies with some alternative decorations and flavorings. I've baked for nearly 40 years so you'd think the one time I went to write about the experience everything would turn out perfectly. Not so. Read more>  Hopefully, a little laughter and a few tips will make your own experience less troublesome.

Family spending--Nightmare or Peaceful Ease

We have a large family so gift giving is always part politicking and part pleasure. The arguments about how to handle Christmas usually start about Thanksgiving and continue through the end of the year. These are peaceful discussions more than arguments, yet not everyone agrees. Endometriosis and Colitis

I had endometriosis and ended up having a hysterectomy at 35, then had to deal with all the polyps issues of a bad diet and system that didn't respond well. Hong Kong

We just returned from China, sick with bronchitis but very thankful we live in the United States. Most city dwellers lived in high rise buildings like those shown in my picture. We were told the electricity wasn't reliable. So that means that you could never rely on the elevators. The one child rule is in existence, unless you're an only child or a minority.

Pike Place Market

When a friend of mine visited from Germany, we did all the tourist trips. On one of our visits we went downtown Seattle and visited Pikes Place market. We have taken my niece and nephews here and had a fun time. One of the favorite of among 100s of shops was the magic store where you can learn all the fun tricks. Food samples are offered by many vendors--our favorite was wine vinegars. Yummy.

Middle Grade Children's Writer--Anjali Banerjee

I attended the PNWA conference this past weekend. So by Saturday, I was worn down, looking for a place to hide until I had to slip out to my editor appointment and chose a room at random. There I met writer Anjali Banerjee and listened to her overview of how to write for middle grade children.

Digital Photography

If you like the photo\\\'s I\\\'ve posted and are considering buying a Nikon D40, you might read my article, just click the link. We\\\'ve had digital cameras for about 5 or 6 years. They are a life saver. The pictures store so easily on CD and we don\\\'t have piles of photos and of the negatives to deal with too.

Family Friendly Outing

My idea of a hike with young children lasts no more than four miles with 1500\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' or less of incline. So these hikes in my article amount to a perfect family day with a leisurely climb, a picnic someplace scenic and some really interesting geology.
