So many people have bad things to say, but I think it is a really neat way to bond with your children. Don't Let Your Special Needs Teen Be a Fashion Reject! - Blog Entry03 Apr 2006 03:26 PM AWESOME article! This is so important. I know so many kids (both special needs kids, and those who are just a little socially awkward) who would really fit in a lot better if their parents helped them with their clothes, hair and hygiene. Thanks so much for addressing this important issue! The Cat Carrier: A Symbol of Trouble! - Blog Entry27 Mar 2006 05:13 PM So funny! On getting into the carrier - I actually did that with our doghouse when we got a puppy. He wouldn't go into the big scary box and so I put him in it and then got in with him - well, I put my head and my midsection in with my legs hanging out. It actually worked! He began to sleep in the doghouse. Adopting Your First Cat: What To Do? - Blog Entry13 Mar 2006 05:59 PM You are right about cats liking their privacy with the litterbox. We have our litterbox in the bathroom and they will not go in if anyone else is in there. We also get dirty looks if we accidentially walk in on them while they are "using the facilities"! :-) Baby Carriers 101 - Blog Entry27 Feb 2006 04:57 PM I have heard that you need to be careful with carriers like the Snugli and the Baby Bjorn because of the way that the baby's body is supported. The strap that goes between their legs (like a parachute) can become uncomfortable for the baby (and even cause spinal problems) if they are worn in it for a long time. Apparently it is better to have the baby in a sitting position where their bottom and legs are supported. It seems to me that those carriers would be fine for short amounts of time. I just know that on the babywearing sites I have read that if you are going to wear your baby for hours each day then it is better to have a more supportive carrier. Does anyone else know more about this? My favorite carrier is the Mei Tai (pronounced "May Tie"). It is one of the ABC's that Nicki mentioned. Great article by the way! Make a Baby Cuddle Blanket - Blog Entry26 Feb 2006 03:22 AM Very cool blanket! I definitely plan to make one! Health Care When Your Child Comes Home - Blog Entry18 Feb 2006 03:59 AM Could you provide some tips on how to choose an adoption-friendly doctor? Adoption Transitions #1: Adoptive Parents Wait - Blog Entry16 Feb 2006 04:59 PM Another thing that has helped us during the wait is working on Erick's lifebook. I am making myself do it very slowly in order to draw it out. I think it looks that much better, though, since I'm taking so much time with it. Also, I have started several projects for our baby. I'm making several things for our nursery and I'm about to start a quilt. Even though it has no real impact, it still feels like I'm doing something to help bring him home. The Magic Train Book: How I Motivated My Autistic Son to Sit Quietly in Church - Blog Entry14 Feb 2006 06:20 PM What a neat story! It is so great that you are willing to try non-traditional ideas to meet the needs of your son. We are about to be parents of a special needs child and I think it is so important to remember that each child has a different set of needs and that we have to meet each child where they are. |
