Disney Launches New Baby Store

Disney really is after what it thinks is the hottest new market: infants. They’re negotiating to have a presence in maternity wards and creating advice and social networking sites aimed at new and expecting parents, and now they’re opening stores specifically for their Disney Baby brand. To avoid confusion: the Disney Baby brand is not a line of Disney products featuring child versions of its characters, but sets of clothing, supplies, toys, and more, all for infants. USA Today reports that Disney has opened its first official Disney Baby store. So far it only has one location – a mall … Continue reading

What Does My Health Insurance Cover?

After much searching, my husband and I have finally found affordable health insurance. The insurer has mailed us a fat booklet of information that gives details about our health plan. I am hoping that if I read it, I will learn what my health insurance plan actually covers. A while ago, we were sent a booklet that contained information about what the dental portion of our new health insurance plan covered. I was greatly disappointed to learn that my dentist is not a “Participating Dentist”. I haven’t quite made a decision about what, exactly, I intend to do about that … Continue reading

Genetic Genealogy Terms

Genetic genealogy is a fascinating topic. It is very scientific in nature, though, so if you are new to learning about genetic genealogy you may want to learn about some commonly used genetic genealogy terms. They have a question and answer section, … Continue reading

Location Has a Bearing on Health Care

Different regions of the world — or even of a particular country — tend to have different types of health problems and health care strengths and weaknesses. Look at the United States, for example. The Midwest and the South tend to have the highest rates of morbid obesity in the nation. The Northeast is known for female-friendly care: women get more frequent Pap smears and mammograms there than in the rest of the country. So how does location affect the care you get (and the money you spend on health care)? Studies from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center took a look at … Continue reading

Can We Find A Way To Eliminate Liquid Restrictions On Airplanes?

Have you ever wondered how it is possible that we can create a vehicle that transports people to the moon, yet we can’t seem to come up with an airport-screening device that can detect liquid explosives? Having such a machine would mean that we could all go back to toting unlimited supplies of juice for our children without having to worry about exceeding the Transportation Security Administration’s existing 3-ounce rule. Well… it looks like help is on the way. Hopefully. Executives with the Homeland Security Department recently announced that they are working with top government scientists to test a new … Continue reading

Homeschooling in Maine: Option 1

This is not legal advice. As someone who lives in a state that is highly regulated, I cannot emphasize enough the need for you to advocate for yourself and make a point to know your state laws. While the school district will most likely provide you with a printed copy of the laws and regulations for home schooling, a local home schooling group can be a valuable asset when it comes to navigating your way through the system. Although I generally blog on all options for one state in the same blog so that it is easier for those of … Continue reading
