Okay so I have this six year old and she is having a yellow discharge on a regular basis. I know that sometimes she laughs too hard and pee’s a little dribble in her pants, but this is not that. This is a bonafide discharge like an adult. Strange to me that a six year old would be getting it. She also gets something we call “red butt” which is were her coolie gets red and itches and hurts. this usualy happens if she doesnt shower regularly (grandparents house’s) or if she has one of those ‘accidents’ when she laughs and doesnt change her undies right away. I think they call it urine irritation.

So yesterday I took her to the store and got her panty liners. My husband looked at me a little weird that I was getting a little girl pantie liners, but hey what am I supposed to do? It looks like a yellow racing stripe in her underwear. And at least she can keep herself clean.

The only thing I can think of (and this leads to my question) is that over the summer she fell off a chair and it hit between her legs and she blead. I have a suspision she broke her hyman when she fell. Do you think if she broke her hyman that she would start getting discharges and bacterial buildup like an adult then?

It could be she has a yeast infection…yes little girls and boys can get this. Take her to the doc and he/she will be able to tell you.

    Sounds like a yeast infection.

Does she take bubble baths? Sometimes that irritates the skin and makes little girls vulnerable to yeast infections.

I am with everyone else little girls can get yeast infections even as babies…
Boys get yeast infections like diaper rashes but, they can get skin yeast infections…
I would contact her ped and if she does take baths that can also cause them and make them worse…

    This is probably way TMI!
I always had discharge of some sort….I thought it was normal? My mother never said anything to me about it? I shower everyday and don’t do baths. Sometimes its yellow and sometimes it was just clear-ish stuff…..sometimes it’s even green but I’ve done it since I was 4….I thought it was normal though??

No…green is never normal….if you get treated make sure Dh does as well or he’ll just pass it back to you.

I wanted to update you all. I took her in and at first the doc had her take Monistat 7 for possible yeast infection while we waited for the culture to come back, but when it did we found it was full blown Virginial Steptocuccus. So like STREP THROAT, in her virgina. Poor thing. So he put her on Ammoxicillian and after 7 days she broke out into hives for three days. Apparently she is allergic now. Poor girl. But we put her hair up in an updo and I took her to the movies to see the 3-D Hanna Montana Concert and she was in better spirits. The rash is gone now and so is the strep. But she will be a perminant pantyliner girl because the doc says she is prone and we need to help her find ways to limit moisture down there.

So glad you took her to the doctor to have it cultured. She had to be very uncomfortable with the irritation.

Just concerned – there were no indications of mistreatment/abuse when the doctor evaluated here, were there?

I know that some people are more prone to infections, but I just worry.

So glad that you are being a very caring & loving Mommy to her.

This post is interesting to me…..
My daughter who is 5 has always gotten what we call “red peepee”. She has never had any discharge though. But now I wonder if she has had infections too when she is “sore” down there. We just use a little vaseline and it makes it feel better. I have never been able to link it to not bathing or anything as she takes a bath regularly and never with bubble bath.

hhhmmmmm…..wonder if it should be checked out by her ped. next time…..

Erinellakal, you should at least call the dr’s office now, not later, to see if they want to check out your daughter for these symptoms. It could be a UTI or kidney infection. Those wouldn’t necessarily have a discharge like a yeast infection, but do cause painful urination and soreness.

I would have her checked out too cause it’s not normal to be sore down there….
