Which should come as no surprise, of course. I loved staying at the lodge. The rooms were comfortable, the service good, and the access to the animals was absolutely wonderful. The savannah rooms gave the best view but there is also an observation walk that stretches out between the wings of the hotel. When the walk is open (which is most of the time) it allows you direct viewing access to many of the different types of animals while at ground level. The mentioned walk did get to the point where I would dread it after a long day at the parks but, also as mentioned, it was more than made up for by sitting on the balcony and watching the wildlife. The only thing I truly regret about our stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge was that we didn't get a chance to go on the feeding safari and ride with the animal feeders during their rounds. THAT would have capped the vacation perfectly! Oh, well. Something for next time! -S The Grand Floridian - Why Should You Stay There?22 Sep 2006 11:59 AM Heyo! I have stayed at the Grand Floridian and I have to say that I enjoyed myself. It wasn't my favorite Disney experience (I tend to be a "little" more insane and a "little" less quiet than the hotel atmosphere) but it does rank up toward the top of the list. The primary reason that I found that hotel to be so agreeable when we stayed there over our honeymoon was the Service. Note the capital "S." There was nothing that the hotel wouldn't do for us, regardless of how crazy it was. Me: I need 10 large cardboard boxes and packing tape. GF: It'll be right up, sir. Do you need any help packing? Me: I know it's 2 am, but I've been in the theme parks all day and packing since 6pm and I missed dinner. Can I get... er... a shrimp pizza? GF: Yes, of course sir, would you like extra cheese or some soda? Me: I need . GF: Coming right up, sir. Is there anything else we can do for you? The place was great! Nice rooms, very comfortable. Good views from the balconies. Not only did the lobby have a variety of sitting areas and things to do in those sitting areas, there was the aforementioned baby grand piano AND the three story arbor filled with various types of songbirds. Hopping on the mono-rail to get to any of the parks (minus the Animal Kingdom) was incredibly convenient. Seeing Snow White at breakfast as she hosted the "Breakfast with a Character" for all the kids was amazing. The food was good. Not just "good for a hotel" but "gooooood!" And the scary thing is that, even with everything I've said here, it's not my favorite Disney hotel. It's great, don't get me wrong, but I will admit that the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Boardwalk were both a lot of fun, too, if not so ready to cater to the every whim. Regardless, if you can stay at the Grand Floridian, you should do so at least once. It's a great experience! -S Friday Funnies: Bad Marriage Humor14 Jul 2006 08:39 AM When you showed me the last one of these, I was laughing. When I first read the rest of these, I was laughing quite a bit. Having thought about it a while, though... and making note of myself as your husband... Well, darlin', I'm feeling just a bit worried. *chews his lip and wonders if he should be looking for jewelry to sooth the savage... er... wife* *grins* Scott |
