Guns or No Guns?

People in NYC are generally scared to death about guns.  They won't even hold one.  I was raised in NM and TX and guns were all over the place, including in racks hung in the back window of pickups.  The guy down the street had a collection and we thought nothing of it.

We were taught gun safety and shot only when supervised.  When I got older I bought a couple of rifles for "plinking" or target shooting, and I shot safely to the nth degree.  I don't hunt, but for me, plinking is a lot of fun.

I don't own any guns now, but at times I wish I had a short-barreled shotgun for home protection.  Maybe a pistol, too, for taking with me camping.  No kids are in the house, so at least I don't have that scary issue.
