Could My Child Have Dyslexia?

17 Oct 2008 05:33 AM

Here is one resource that can help: Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) is a national non-profit organization that provides audio educational materials to more than 190,000 people nationwide who cannot access standard print due to visual impairment, learning disability or other physical disability. We offer textbooks from major K-12 publishers as well as fiction, nonfiction and special interest books. It has been proven that listening to an audio version of a book while following along in the textbook can increase comprehension.

This is not a solicitation, I promise. I am just trying to make parents aware that there are many solutions to learning disabilities and this is just one of them. Thanks for reading and I hope we hear from you too! With kind regards, Jenny www.rfbd.org

Hi Tristi, Thank you for putting this out there. I would like to add about an organization that is available to help people with dyslexia. Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic® (RFB&D®) is a national non-profit organization that provides audio educational materials to more than 190,000 people nationwide who cannot access standard print due to visual impairment, learning disability or other physical disability. We offer textbooks from major K-12 publishers as well as fiction, nonfiction and special interest books. It has been proven that listening to an audio version of a book while following along in the textbook can increase comprehension for students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia.

This is not a solicitation, I promise. I am just trying to help make people aware that there are many solutions to learning disabilities and this is just one of them. Thanks for reading and I hope we hear from you too! With kind regards, Jenny - jfalke@rfbd.org www.rfbd.org
