He's 16 now and we got it for him when he was a. old enough to be responsible for it (not lose it and pay for some/most of his mins) and b. when he started doing after school activities (the times aren't always set in stone). So I think he was 13, almost 14 when we got it for him. Now my DD does not have one. But again when she's old enough (in mine and DH's opinion) and starts after school activities that we aren't there with her then yes she'll get one also (again a prepaid one that she'll be responsible for some/most of the mins). Christie Brinkley's Ex-Husband's Infidelity Confession - Blog Entry11 Oct 2008 05:12 PM I can't believe he is still allowed to see his kids. I mean sex with a minor? Isn't that a felony or something? Swapping Out Seasonal Clothing 2 - Blog Entry28 Sep 2008 04:54 PM I swap at the new season also - though since it was around 90 here today I'm not ready to bring out the fall stuff yet! In the next few weeks though I'll pull stuff out of our bin for fall/winter and see what we have and what can stay in the bin. I always scout out the clearance racks at Target, WM and Mervyn's for clothes under $5 (often $1 - $2 even for pants) and will buy big (DD wears a 6 - 6X now but her bin has stuff up to size 10). In fact I found clog/croc sandals for her now and 1 size bigger today at CVS for .79. Stretch Out Your Kids Clothing - Blog Entry28 Sep 2008 04:46 PM Great ideas. My DD grows up (tall) so fast she always has the problem of her pants getting to short before the waist doesn't fit. Oprah's "Why Men Cheat" Controversy - Blog Entry24 Sep 2008 01:51 PM Yeah the media portrail I can totally see in shows like Jon and Kate (she doesn't always treat him with respect - which if I had that many kids I'd be worn out to, well more than I am). And yeah I didn't know the # was so high either - wow! Bratz Gets the Boot from Schools - Blog Entry24 Sep 2008 07:09 AM I'm glad about it - I really dislike those dolls. If the parents really want to buy the books for their 'reluctant readers' they still can - I'm sure they sell them at WM or Target. The Duggar's Go Hollywood - Blog Entry19 Sep 2008 10:17 AM The dad and the older boys are court reports - which I believe they can do from home. I think they are irresbonsible in the fact that they are leaving a huge enviromental footprint with that many kids. However I do admit to watching a couple of the specials I've seen. I do believe they get some $ from the church they run (out of their home I believe). So I'll probably watch the show - I've been watching the 'Kids by the Dozen' series and the Duggars are one of the nicer (more sane even) families I've seen on there. "Too Young" Grandma Gets Shafted at Toy Store - Blog Entry16 Sep 2008 06:38 AM I don't have a comment on the age issue, just that maybe she should have read the coupon better. It said on the bottom you had to be 50+ to use it. My brother and his wife became parents at 16 and then both of their daughters became parents at 16 also - so we know about young parents and grandparents in our family. Is It Cost Effective to Bring a School Lunch? - Blog Entry30 Aug 2008 06:22 PM Our lunch (unless you qualify for the low income lunches, which we do not) at my DD's school is $2.25! A day! I was shocked. Needless to say she'll be packing a lunch - I know I can send her a healthier lunch for less than that each day. This is what her school is offering the first week - Bean/Cheese burrito Corndog Pizza Hamburger w/potato salad Nacho cheese/chips w/string cheese and the rest of the month doesn't look any better. In fact one day they have something called 'haystack'. I'd be interested in going there for lunch that day just to see what the heck that is. A Mother's View from the Pool-Bikinis on Babies? - Blog Entry25 Aug 2008 12:49 PM I was amazed at the preteen girls strutting around the pool at the Y this summer ( and yes they were strutting!) in their bikinis. I wouldn't allow my DD to wear that to the pool or beach. Now a nice two piece (not bikini) is fine (IMO) and my DD has one, but she actually prefers swim shorts. My issue this summer with trying to by her shorts is everywhere is selling the daisy duke type shorts - come on for little girls!!! I finally had to go to the Disney store and spend more than I wanted to get her some decent shorts that wouldn't show her booty if she bent over. |
