On the bonding note: I've always sincerely wondered how formula-feeding moms calm their babies when they are over-tired, scared, sick, hurt or otherwise upset. I always use nursing to do this, and couldn't imagine how to do it otherwise??? Really, I can't.

Also, I breastfeed for all those reasons you mentioned and a few more: Health benefits for MOM, but more importantly because I feel that as parents we need to commit to many selfless acts, and that includes breastfeeding. I know that there are many reasons why a woman would not or could not do it, but to not even try and simply decide against it for selfish reasons is just bad parenting. Sorry, but it's how I feel. i know that saying this may be putting be on one side of the "mommy wars" and against the other, but I believe that formula is truly substandard food :X There are many things I give up for my kids, and many thing I DO for my kids, in spite of my wants or needs. Luckily, I thoroughly enjoy breastfeeding so it's a win:win!!

It worked for me, but not the first time! After my first pregnancy, I had gained forty pounds and even breastfeeding didn't seem to make it budge. I attribute this not only to the extra pregnancy weight but also to the fact that I went back to work full time. Now with my second pregnancy, I only gained half the weight. I am also with baby nursing round the clock, and not pumping or supplementing at all. I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight immediately BUT I am no where near to my pre-parenting weight yet.

Maybe some important things to mention is that if you go back to work full time, pumping and supplementing can affect how much calories you're really burning by breastfeeding. Also, the amount you gain during pregnancy can affect your weight-loss success ;)

That's no surprise to me - she probably used her attatchment to you to become confident in her world, and your acknowledging her needs by "spoiling" (note my sarcasm here) her has made her a confident and independent person in a non-threatening way :D

This kind of polarization also occurs when families choose not to vaccinate for religious reasons. I have no objections to anyone having religious convictions, but IMHO I often think a decision should be made coupled also with informed consent, not on religious conviction alone.

Great article - I really want to start hanging my clothes this spring. I know it's probably possible to hang in MI in the winter, but I'm new to it and I think I will start when it warms up LOL But since I am using cloth diapers, I would especially like to start doing this. I would add to your list #6: The sun is a natural bleaching agent! My cloth diapers are currently hanging in the garden window in my kitchen to bleach the poo stains out, and it works like a charm!
