Adjusting to Being a Big Brother or Sister Takes Time

If you are the parent of a toddler and you are expecting a baby or you have recently welcomed a new baby into your home, you might be wondering whether your toddler will form a close connection with his or her baby brother or sister. When a new baby comes home, newly – minted big brothers and big sisters often take some time to grow into their new roles. It has been almost a year now since I brought Blake home from the hospital, and I can truthfully say that I was concerned about this very issue during the first … Continue reading

Reality Star Jade Goody is Dying

British reality star Jade Goody has shown the country her personality through reality shows, now she is choosing to die just as openly. Twenty seven year old Goody appeared on the British version of “Big Brother” in 2002. She became well known, but not always for good reasons. The press hounded her for her lack of knowledge of British geography and criticized her for running around the Big Brother house naked and drunk. However, she became popular with the public. Vet Offices and Surveillance Cameras

I got to thinking about something I haven’t seen in any vet offices since we moved from Phoenix: surveillance cameras. Observations on Vet Offices I specifically got to thinking about it last Thursday when I took Murph to the specialist for a consult on his paw. I had never been to this particular veterinary practice. I’ve really only been to two other vet offices since we moved to Nashville: Southside Animal Hospital and Banfield in Petsmart when I found Tabby. This new-to-us office was much like any other vet practice. There was a reception desk and a waiting room, and … Continue reading

Reality TV Updates: April 28, 2008

Big week for reality television as American Idol narrows them down, Big Brother finishes up, and a new show start. First up, American Idol whittled the contestants down to five as Irish beauty Carly Smithson was eliminated this week. There had been a bit of controversy over Carly as she had previously had a recording contract but managed to sell less than 500 copies and was dropped. She had good weeks and bad week on Idol this year, but this week was her final as she was the bottom vote getter over Syesha (who had an amazing performance – how … Continue reading

Big Brother Gaffe

If you are watching the reality show “Big Brother,” you probably saw that a contestant on the new Couples season made a comment the other day that has sent many in the community reeling. This season, the big twist to the show is that all the contestants supposedly came in not knowing each other. Based on questionnaires they filled out before the show, they were matched with a person who seemed to be their perfect mate. Adam, a contestant who claims that he works for an autism foundation, but the show’s web page says he is a public relations manager, … Continue reading

Television News: Two Surprising Finales

This week marked the end of two fairly popular reality shows – Big Brother and Last Comic Standing. I devotedly watched each and was a bit surprised at the final outcomes. If you had been watching Big Brother 8, you know the Donatos. If you have not, let me tell you about them. This year’s big twist (other than Eric being America’s Player and having to vote according to how we wanted) was to reunite three people in the house with three people with which they had unfinished business. One was Dustin and Joe, boyfriends who had a bad parting. … Continue reading
