The Hidden – Kathryn Mackel

You know, I never thought there was such a thing as a Christian supernatural thriller, but I found one. It’s called “The Hidden,” and it was written by Kathryn Mackel. Psychiatrist Susan Stone has been burying herself in work to try to overcome the grief surrounding her son’s death, but it’s not working. Memories of him flash through her mind and she fights them off, trying desperately not to remember what happened, what led up to those last moments. When the phone rings to tell her that her father has been in an accident, she leaves everything behind to go … Continue reading

Reconstructing Natalie – Laura Jensen Walker

I didn’t feel well over the weekend and so I got a lot of reading done. Out of the six books I’ve read since last Friday night, “Reconstructing Natalie” was by far my favorite. Natalie is twenty-seven and unmarried, but she thinks that might be about to change – there’s a new man in her life and he seems to be perfect in every way. She’s got a good job working in her parents’ company, and she’s living practically rent-free in her parents’ guesthouse. She has good friends and she loves her life. But one day while trying on a … Continue reading

Mercy Me – Margaret A. Graham

“Mercy Me” is a down-to-earth Christian novel about a woman named Esmeralda and her best friend Beatrice. Beatrice has moved to another town and misses all her old friends, but Esmeralda keeps her up-to-date on everything that’s going on in town, and throws in some life advice as well. She feels responsible for making sure Beatrice is happy – after all, Beatrice did have cancer a few years back and lives in fear that it will return. As Esmeralda moves quietly through her life, doing all that needs doing, she uses her God-given stubbornness and common sense to solve problems … Continue reading

Sadie-in-Waiting – Annie Jones

“Sadie-in-Waiting” by Christian author Annie Jones is a delightful Southern story about a woman in her late thirties who has given over her life to the care and keeping of others. She has a hard time saying no or standing up for herself, and consequently, feels as though she’s been waiting her whole life for it to be her turn. Well, she has, because she’s never insisted on taking her turns. She’s always given them to someone else. And then she sits and eats black jelly beans, wondering why her life seems to be about everyone else but her. When … Continue reading

Media Week in Review – May 5th-10th

Thank you for joining us at our look back at the week here in Media. We began the week with a look at the Christian novel, “A Bride Most Begrudging.” Constance was mistakenly sent as a tobacco bride to the new colonies in America, but she discovers that perhaps this new land holds more for her than she ever thought. American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken released another album this week, and the legendary Neil Diamond has a new offering coming soon as well. I guess we’ll all be standing in line at the music store or hovering on our favorite … Continue reading
