Steven Segal Does Reality and Food Network Serves Up Two New Shows

Do you remember action hero Steven Segal? Well, he’s back and this time, he is wielding a badge. That’s right, Segal will star as a New Orleans crime fighter in his new reality show titled “Steven Segal: Lawman,” which is set to premiere on A&E in late 2009. Segal is deputized by the Jefferson Parish County Sheriff’s Department and he hopes to clean up the Big Easy, which has been left crime riddled since Hurricane Katrina. The show will also follow Segal as he tries to help rebuild the community. Segal said he is doing the show, in part, to … Continue reading

Paula Deen’s Famous Restaurant Almost Destroyed by Fire

You don’t need to know Food Network queen Paula Deen very well to know that her Savannah, Georgia eatery, The Lady & Sons is her pride and joy. Fans of the exuberant celebrity chef know The Lady & Sons is to Deen what “Meet the Press” was to Tim Russert. So when news spread late Sunday night that a fire was burning in her famous restaurant it’s no surprise that Deen raced down to the eatery in her bathrobe and bedroom slippers. Luckily she wasn’t met with her worst nightmare. According to fire officials, crews responded to a blaze about … Continue reading

The Next Food Network Star

My kids are rushing through their baths tonight because in a little while The Next Food Network Star comes on TV. I’m not a big fan of reality TV shows, but we have watched the past two episodes as a family and have really enjoyed not only the show, but watching TV together. Most shows on TV these days just aren’t child friendly. Even the mild shows have language and sexual references that I’d rather not have to explain to small children. Two weeks ago there were ten participants, each week one person is dropped off the show. The winner … Continue reading

Emeril Gets the Boot from the Food Network

The man who is credited by many for putting the Food Network on the map is slowly being shown the door. Emeril Lagasse is leaving the Food Network’s primetime schedule, according to network execs. But the popular celebrity chef isn’t disappearing from the airwaves all together. Rather, the “BAM! Man” is headed to the Fine Living Network; a move the chef hopes will breathe new life into his beloved “Emeril Live!” The cooking show, which has been a staple on the Food Network’s primetime schedule since its 1997 debut combines cooking, music from a live band, and Lagasse’s dynamic personality. … Continue reading

Big Breaks

It’s good news all around for a couple of lesser-known names trying to make their big break in the world of entertainment. First up: Michael Symon. I know. Michael who? If you aren’t a regular viewer of Food Network’s “Iron Chef” series then you likely have no clue who Michael Symon is. The Ohio cook won the network’s “The Next Iron Chef” competition in 2007 and appears on its “Iron Chef America” series, but now you’ll be seeing his mug even more. Earlier this week the folks at Food Network announced that Symon will take over as host of the … Continue reading

Laila on CBS, Rachael on Ice, and Ellen on Glitter

Laila Ali sure knows how to milk her 15 minutes of fame. The former “Dancing with the Stars” finalist has yet another new job—–she’s joining CBS’s “The Early Show” as a contributing correspondent starting next week. The boxing champ turned ballroom dancer recently got a new gig co-hosting “American Gladiators” and now she’s going big time by traveling the country for CBS in search of human-interest stories. Basically, Ali is going to be doing for “The Early Show” what celeb chef and resident pregnant hottie Giada De Laurentiis is doing for NBC’s “Today” show. CBS execs say the reason they … Continue reading

Food Network Gets Extra Helping of Rachael Ray and Jamie Oliver

Just when you thought Rachael Ray could not possibly take on another job the peppy celebrity chef turned talk show host just added more to her plate. Come January you can get double helpings of Ray on the Food Network in the form of a new primetime series called “Rachael’s Vacation,” which follows the chatty chef as she explores, cities, countries, food, and lifestyles around the world. The new series will air in addition to Ray’s daytime show “30 Minute Meals.” The 39-year-old aproned Energizer bunny signed a two-year deal for her new series, and according to Food Network insiders, … Continue reading

Food Network BAMS Emeril and Carson Crosses the Line

One of my dad’s favorite TV shows is getting sliced, diced and dumped from the Food Network. “Emeril Live,” which has been a mainstay on the all-cooking channel for more than a decade will cease production on December 11th. However, according to network execs, the show’s star celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse, is still under contract with Food Network. Which means you’ll still see the effervescent cook BAM-ing, basting and butterflying chicken breasts, but it won’t be on the show that made him a household name. (Though, the network says reruns of “Emeril Live” will air at least until the end … Continue reading

Fighting Back

Ooh Wee! Things are heating up in the kitchens of two of America’s top celebrity chefs… and the fire isn’t coming from the grill. According to the New York Post tempers are flaring between “No Reservations” host Anthony Bourdain and chef turned talk show host Rachael Ray. It appears Bourdain is the one who lit into Ray first calling her out for endorsing Dunkin’ Donuts. “She’s hugely influential, particularly with children,” Bourdain says in the November issue of Outside magazine. “And she’s endorsing Dunkin’ Donuts. It’s like endorsing crack for kids.” Never one to mince words Bourdain continued to scald … Continue reading

A New Food Network Star Is Born

I had blogged before about the show “The Next Food Network Star.” I had never watched it until my husband pointed out it had a former marine as a contestant. Being a food show junkie, I decided to watch it and was immediately hooked! Last night was the big finale. It was between two women – Rory Schepisi and Amy Finley. Rory’s point of view was Real Food for Real People and Amy’s point of view was the Gourmet Next Door. The finale was actually supposed to be between Rory and Joshua Adam Garcia (JAG) as Amy was eliminated the … Continue reading
