Electronic Social Networks Thrive in the Workplace

You have heard of Wikipedia, haven’t you? Well how about Pfizerpedia or Hershypedia? It seems that many large companies are taking a page, almost literally, from booming social network sites to create their own versions, where employees can share ideas, get personal and even post resumes. I remember way back when, when the corporate world was just starting to dedicate resources to IT (Information Technology) as it related to the internal office community. I was hired, in part, at a good-sized firm in order to create an Intranet, in which employees could share information about their departments, pick up news … Continue reading

What’s New At Hershey

In my previous post I wrote about the 100th anniversary of both Hersheypark and one of its signature products, the Hershey’s Kiss. It’s a milestone Hershey, Pennsylvania is not taking lightly. The model factory town built more than 100 years ago by chocolate magnate Milton Hershey is still the epicenter of the Hershey chocolate empire and today its neighboring attractions make it one of the most popular destinations in the nation. After all, where else can you take in the sweet smell of chocolate while flying around the twists and turns on a wooden roller coaster? Anyone who has visited … Continue reading

Family Travel: Celebrate 100 Years of the Chocolate Kiss

Every few months I find myself writing about the popular Pennsylvania amusement park—-Hersheypark. Can you really blame me? (I’m talking specifically to all you chocoholics out there.) The sweet smelling town is home to the world’s largest chocolate factory and features streets named “Chocolate” and “Cocoa,” even the street lamps are shaped like Hershey’s Kisses. The park is one of my family’s favorite vacation destinations. But, we aren’t alone. This year the park is expecting a record 6 million-plus visitors as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of both Hersheypark and one of its signature products, the Hershey’s Kiss. For those … Continue reading

Candy-Coated Chocolate War

There’s a candy-coated war of words raging between two major chocolate makers and you stand to benefit… especially if you buy candy in bulk (I’m talking BIG purchases… measured in pounds, not ounces.) and are looking for a new way to advertise a major event. In one corner: the candy that “melts in your mouth, not in your hand.” Mars Inc., the maker of M&Ms, is unveiling a new plan called “My Branding,” which will allow businesses to purchase vast amounts of M&M’s with their corporate logos or other advertisements, such as slogans, seared on to the colorful chocolate treat. … Continue reading

A Free Ride Through A Sweet Treat

Recently, I posted a blog about fun factory tours you could take as a family without having to pay a dime. I received wonderful comments, including one that suggested Hershey’s Chocolate World, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Today I will take that reader up on her suggestion… and the timing is perfect because just a few days ago, the Great American Chocolate Tour Ride at Hershey’s Chocolate World just re-opened after undergoing a $5 million update. The ride, which debuted in 1973, was updated to ensure the scenes reflected the latest chocolate-making technology. The ride is meant to simulate the experience of … Continue reading
