Another Reason to Encourage Your Kids to WRITE a Letter to Santa

In a previous blog I vented… rather, shared my feelings regarding the influx of websites encouraging kids to go high-tech and email their letters to Santa instead of writing them by hand and shipping them off via snail mail. Frankly, I find the whole Santa email idea a bit insulting. It’s a slap in the face of parents and teachers who work tirelessly to encourage children to practice their penmanship. Think about it; what better incentive to get your kindergartener to master spelling, printing and word order than actually putting pen (or pencil or crayon) to paper and jotting down … Continue reading

Free Underwear

There are a lot of things that I buy used. Underwear isn’t one of them. I draw the line at anything that has touched another’s “safety zone”. What that usually means is that frugal people are generally wearing torn, holey, or otherwise shabby undergarments. I can’t help it. $8 for three pair of underwear on sale, or $8 toward a great sale on tomato paste that I can use for 12 meals. It’s a no-brainer. My mom buys me underwear. Yes, even at my age (“29 and holding”). They’re a very thoughtful gift. Especially when they’re NOT X-Large granny pants. … Continue reading

Did Your Marshall Fields Turn Into A Macy’s?

If you can’t figure out what you enjoy more–watching reality TV shows or shopping–then you must read this blog. I just found out that someone has come up with a way that you can get fixes for both–at the same time. It’s a reality TV show about shopping. Well, not exactly about shopping. Rather, it is a show that takes you behind-the-scenes at the United States’ largest department store, the nine-story Macy’s, in New York’s Herald Square. It’s an eight-show series called “Unwrapping Macy’s” and it is set to air on the WE network beginning tonight. This is by no … Continue reading
