NFL Teammate Supports Newly Outed Former Player

It seems that one of the hardest things a gay person has to do is come out.  Many wait for just the right moment and often fear that it might alienate family and friends. But, what is you were outed in pubic?   That has to be the worse. That is exactly what happened to Kwame Harris this week.  Harris appeared in court Monday after his former boyfriend, Dimitri Geier, filed a civil suit against him.  Geier is charging the former NFL offensive tackle, who played for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, with domestic violence causing great bodily injury … Continue reading

Terrell Owens Gets Reality Show

Football fans may or may not like it, but Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens is going to be the star of his own reality show. The reason I say fans may or may not like it is because many fans don’t like Owen due to his outspokenness and huge ego. It’s not that Owens cannot deliver on the field – he can. Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1996 NFL draft, he helped the team win 13 games that year. In 2000, he made 20 catches for 283 yards, breaking a 50 year old NFL record. However, … Continue reading

Curse of the Pittsburgh Steelers?

If you are a football fan, you will be saddened to hear that former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Dwight “Mad Dog” White died yesterday at the age of 58. It is believed he died due to complications from a back surgery. White helped the Steelers to four Super Bowl titles in the 1970s as part of the four man Steel Curtain. The Steel Curtain was the nickname given to the Steelers defensive line of “Mean” Joe Green, L.C. Greenwood, Ernie Holmes, and White during its 70s dynasty. It was this defensive line that helped the Steelers win the Super Bowl … Continue reading

Herschel Walker: The Dark Side

When I was growing up, Herschel Walker seemed destined to be a bright shining star. He played running back for the University of Georgia and he was named to the All-American team. In his first year, he set a NCAA freshman running record and finished third in the Heismann Trophy voting. When I was a sophomore in college in 1982, he was finally winning that Heisman Trophy in his junior year. He was young, talented, and good-looking, with a potentially promising career in the NFL. However, while many times we think celebrities and sports stars have it made, that is … Continue reading

Frugal SuperBowl

Want to celebrate the Superbowl but not spend a lot of money? From hosting parties to getting in on official events, here are some ideas that will help you have a great time and stay on budget. Your guests will hope that you host it every year! One idea to have a frugal Superbowl is to host a potluck party. Ask your guests to bring food or a beverage. You can provide the paper plates, cups, napkins, etc. Purchase them at the dollar store instead of the party store to save a lot of money. You can also make inexpensive … Continue reading

Hot EA Games Now on the Mac

EA games are now available for the Mac. Apple announced the release of six new titles of video games that are playable on the Mac, along with gaming gear to enhance the playing experience. Apple is recommending that these games be played on the newer Intel-based Macs. Some of the games list the Intel processor as a requirement, although rumor has it that the games are all playable on older Macs, but with either a decrease in performance or with glitches that may pause the games or require them to be restarted. Some of the games are available right now, … Continue reading

Quick Trick for Extra Seating

Well, I won’t bore those of you who aren’t into football with the kick off of a new NFL season, especially since my team the Chicago Bears, lost their first game. However, as autumn emerges, there are going to be other get-togethers besides football games, and you may need some extra seating for last minute entertaining. A great way to add some extra seating without a lot of effort or expense is to utilize your existing patio chairs. No, I’m not suggesting that we just throw them into our living rooms or family rooms “as is,” but there are some … Continue reading

Vick Pleads Guilty: Ready to Stop Hearing About Him?

How do you feel about Michael Vick’s guilty plea? We knew it was coming even before he made it official yesterday. But now he has and I’m sort of relieved. Mainly because his crime won’t go unpunished, but also because the issue has sort of been beat to death. (I’m among those doing the beating, I fully admit!) I suspect some of you aren’t as interested in it all either anymore. (If you ever were. It’s okay if you weren’t, just means this didn’t interest you. Doesn’t make you any less of an animal lover.) I’ve seen passionate comments left … Continue reading

Disturbing Support for Michael Vick

I’ve sort of been out of the loop the last few days. I had family in town and was busy enjoying their company and playing tour guide. Not much time for keeping up with the news. I did hear Michael Vick will plead guilty to federal conspiracy charges involving dogfighting. Which should make us animal lovers feel vindicated, right? His endorsement deals had been suspended or canceled altogether, he’d been banned from attending training camp –heck, his career in the NFL looked shaky altogether. All because us animal lovers spoke up, expressed our outrage and demonstrated we’re a force to … Continue reading

Michael Vick Learns Animal Lovers Are a Force to Be Reckoned With

On Tuesday I wrote about more “Bad Newz” for Michael Vick and hoped there’d be more coming. Guess what? There was! (Already!) Animal rights groups like the ASPCA, PETA, and the HSUS have been battling for a long time to eliminate the inhumane world of dogfighting. They have to take it step-by-step because legislation differs from state to state. (They’ve made progress over the years, as at least now there’s some sort of dogfighting legislation on most books. However, there are still plenty of loopholes. For example, in Georgia dogfighting is a felony, but it’s legal to possess dogs for … Continue reading
