New Personal Progress Booklets

Have you seen the new Personal Progress booklets? They’re fabulous. Take everything you loved about Personal Progress before, and now put a fresh look on it, spiral bind it for easy usage, and invite all women (and men) to participate. I love how updated the book is, but more importantly, I love how functional it now is. With the addition of the value Virtue to the Young Women theme and program, the church needed to update many of its materials including posters, manuals, and the Personal Progress book. The organization of the book is very similar to how it was … Continue reading

Young Women: Faith Activities

At times it is good to plan an entire month of activities based around the value that you are covering for the month. This month I am going to give suggestions that can help the girls focus on their faith goals, as well as building faith. This is a topic that requires reverence. You may want to discuss some of the activities with the girls and let them choose the ones they want to do. One activity you could do as a class or an entire young women’s group is to plant and care for a garden. This would be … Continue reading

Young Women: Christmas and Personal Progress

The holidays are coming up. You can easily plan activities that fit in with the young women’s Personal Progress and Christmas. Here are four uplifting activities that will help with Personal Progress and focus on the true meaning of Christmas. 1) You can have a night in which you view artwork that depicts the Nativity and life of Christ. As you view the artwork, you may also want to read scriptures that pertain to parts of Christ’s life. You may also listen or sing along to Handel’s Messiah. At the end of the activity you may want to leave a … Continue reading

Young Women: Integrity

The final value in the Personal Progress book is Integrity. The theme for this value is “I will have the moral courage to make my decisions based on my knowledge of what is right and wrong.” The scripture is Job 27:5: “Till I die I will not have my integrity removed from me.” This is a wonderful value that will help your daughter develop strong and good characters. Young Women: Good Works

In continuing with the values in the Personal Progress book, our sixth value is Good Works. This is a wonderful value that focuses on service. The theme is “I will help others and build the kingdom through righteous service.” The scripture is 3 Nephi 12:16: “Therefore let your light so shine before this people that they might see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” This is a wonderful value for all people to learn, but I think it really helps the young women in their development. One of the experiences has the girls read scriptures … Continue reading

Young Women: Choice and Accountability

The next value in the Personal Progress book is Choice and Accountability. The theme for this value is “I will choose good over evil and accept responsibility for my decisions.” The scripture is Joshua 24:15: “Choose for whom ye will serve; . . . but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” This value is extremely important for each young woman to grasp. The value experiences focus on the ways to learn the commandments and to feel and recognize the promptings of the Holy Ghost. The girls are encouraged to make difficult decisions now, so that … Continue reading

Young Women: Individual Worth

The third value in the Personal Progress is Individual Worth. The scripture is “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God” (Doctrine and Covenants 18:10). This theme focuses on self-esteem. The girls should learn that Heavenly Father loves each of them and that He is aware of them and their needs. The experiences focus on learning about how Heavenly Father loves them. They also have the opportunity to realize their talents and gifts. In addition to learning that they are each of worth, the girls learn the importance of helping everyone feel their worth. This is … Continue reading

With the rush of the school year, it may be easy to allow Personal Progress to be put on a backburner. It is important to encourage your daughter to be working on at least one experience throughout the year. Here are five simple suggestions to help motivate your daughter with her Personal Progress. 1) Take the time to review what your daughter is doing in school, and see if these experiences coincide with any goals or projects she may be working on. She may just need to complete a few extra steps to have these experiences passed off. 2) Encourage … Continue reading

Young Women in Excellence

The basic outline to the program is very similar to New Beginnings. The young women will briefly review the different values and the meanings, and then there will usually be a speaker or two, as well as musical numbers. Generally the dress is Sunday dress for the activity. One part of Young Women in Excellence is that it is a chance for the Young Women to showcase the different projects that they have … Continue reading
