Queen Beatrix Announced Abdication

Royal families have been in the news the last few years.  Two years ago, Prince William married Kate Middleton.  Last year, Queen Elizabeth celebrated her Diamond Jubilee.  That’s celebrating sixty years on the throne for us Yanks.  And this year, there was the joyous news of a new royal baby. Now, there is a bit of royal news coming out of the Netherlands.  Queen Beatrix announced her retirement this week.  Unlike England’s Queen Elizabeth, who is still going strong at 86, Queen Beatrix is a youthful 75, but announced that she would abdicate her thrown on April 30th, Queen’s Day. … Continue reading

Prince William’s granny is going global… via the World Wide Web. Britain’s 81-year-old royal matriarch is entering foreign territory, but the queen says she is up to the task. Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s oldest-ever monarch and an icon of traditionalism, launched her own special Royal Channel on YouTube today. Which just goes to prove that it is never too late to join the YouTube generation. Celebrity Weddings—Just Hitched and Getting Hitched

Usher may have gotten cold feet, but it seems nothing was going stop Steve Martin from getting hitched this weekend. Not even the fact that his guests didn’t know there was going to be a wedding. It was no secret that Martin intended to marry his girlfriend Anne Stringfield, but it appears no one knew it was going to happen Saturday night. Do you remember author Salman Rushdie? He caused quite a stir in the Islamic world when he released his novel “The Satanic Verses” in 1988. Many Muslims found it to be insulting to Islam and the Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran issued a fatwa (a religious edict) calling for his death. The Iranian government said they did not condone the fatwa, but could not withdraw it either. Fearing for his safety, the British novelist went into hiding.
