Stake Conference and Young Kids

Stake conference is a great opportunity to hear from local church leaders in your area. The meetings usually consist of one adult only session on Saturday night and then a two-hour meeting on Sunday. The sacrament is not served at Stake Conference. Additionally there may be leadership meetings for people who serve in the bishopric or in the presidencies of the auxiliaries in the church. Stake conference is a great time to receive counsel and to feel the promptings of the spirit, but it can be difficult to do if you have young children. Young children find it hard to … Continue reading

RS/EQ: The Sabbath – A Delight

As we head into the 2008 course of study for Relief Society and Priesthood, I’m excited to think about studying the words of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Before we begin, however, I’d like to finish up our series on the lessons provided by Spencer W. Kimball. Lesson #16 in the book is entitled, “The Sabbath—A Delight.” How often do we think of the Sabbath as being a delight? I generally think of it with a mixture of fear and trembling, but I need to change that perception. President Kimball begins his lesson by sharing a story from a time when … Continue reading

I am grateful for the technology that allows me to read and listen to Conference long after the closing prayer has been said. Most people know that you can purchase Conference tapes and CDs from LDS bookstores, websites and distribution centers about a month … Continue reading

Family Prayer

One activity that truly helps to build family bonds is family prayer. There is something special about families gathering together in prayer on a regular basis. It helps to teach children about praying for others, and a true reverence for our Heavenly Father. There is also a close bond formed between people that pray for each other. This bond is the pure love that is hard to achieve in any relationship. Gathering the family together each day to pray can be a difficult task, especially when you have teenagers. It can seem like everyone is on a different time schedule … Continue reading
