Moms are Worth More Than They Realize

Moms do so much for their families. Some women are stay at home moms, who spend their days taking care of children, and keeping up with all the work that is required in order to keep up a household. Other moms spend time working a full or part time job, and then come home to take care of the children and the chores. Women tend to underestimate the value of the work they do. This can be problematic when it comes to life insurance. A survey that was done by The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company reveals that women tend … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: Mother, Catch the Vision of Your Call

I know we talked about moms last week as we studied a past Conference talk, but between the upcoming Mother’s Day and the fact that I’m a mom, I reserve the right to address the subject again! This week, we’re looking at a talk from 1974, given by Bishop H. Burke Peterson of the Presiding Bishopric. The talk is entitled “Mother, Catch the Vision of Your Call.” Bishop Peterson begins by citing the true story of a teenage delinquent. A neighbor remembered a time when, as a young child, he had told her that there was no mother at his … Continue reading

Stay-at-Home Moms Deserve Raise: Latest Salary.com Survey

The way I see it, someone owes me money. According to the most recent (May 2, 2007) salary.com survey, stay-at-home moms should rake in just over $138,000 a year. The company surveyed over 40,000 mothers and determined that we perform 10 typical jobs that would equal a salary of $138,095 annually ,if we worked outside the home. This figure was an increase of 3% from the May 2006 survey. The company has been conducting these types of surveys for the past seven years. According to a company press release, Bill Coleman, senior vice-president and chief compensation officer at Salary.com reports … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: Because She Is a Mother

In a Conference talk given in April of 1997, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve spoke about the importance of mothers. With Mother’s Day weekend approaching this month, I thought this a good time to review! Elder Holland began his talk by speaking to women who wish to be mothers but are unable. He gently reminds them that the Lord does not withhold blessings, and urging them to nurture those who need nurturing as they wait on this divine calling. He also lets fathers know that he hasn’t forgotten them or their importance – but this … Continue reading

Sometimes Desperation is the Best Motivation

As someone who has been a leader in the direct sales industry for five years now, I’ve seen people come and go from the business (often daily). While I was never a great salesperson and I wasn’t the top leader in the company, I always considered myself to be a pretty good judge of who would be successful and who wouldn’t be. “Why do you want to join?” I would ask. The responses were pretty typical. “I need extra money for the holidays”. “I want to pay for my children’s preschool program”. “I need to get out of the house … Continue reading

Shhhh…..I am trying to work!

Don’t get me wrong…I love my husband. He is adorable. He’s funny, intelligent and genuinely fun to be around. Unless I am trying to work – then, all of those fantastic traits can be a bit annoying. On a positive note, I was feeling a bit of writers block tonight and his constant talking gave me a topic to write about. “Honey…you would have loved the lunch we had today…they had the best burgers”. “Did you notice that the movie I’ve been wanting to see is out on DVD..finally?” “Hey – listen to the dog, he’s snoring again…he must be … Continue reading

Wash Tubs , Play Dough Containers & Shoe Hangers – a Few Clever Craft Storage Tools

I have always been an avid crafter. I love to paint, create with clay, draw and build. Needless to say, I have a pretty chaotic craft room, or as my husband not-so-politely calls it…a “crap” room. My craft room became even more cluttered when my daughter turned three. She definitely got my crafty…(and slightly disorganized) genes. Suddenly my already crazy craft room was also filled with preschooler essentials like coloring books, crayons, beads, buttons, tissue paper, and left over toilet paper rolls. In an attempt to regain order, I came up with a few creative ways to store all of … Continue reading

Beta Fish, Hermit Crabs and Bulbs, Oh My!

Have you ever bought your child a toy, or a gift that they were so excited about that you just had to step it up a notch? Yesterday afternoon, my three year old daughter and I went to Target. They have this great new little dollar section in the front of the store that I refer to as the “bribe aisle”. She was an angel yesterday while I was picking up a few odds-and-ends, so when I finished shopping, we made a bee-line for the bribe aisle. She started shuffling through fake earrings, princess tiaras and plastic shoes. Suddenly she … Continue reading

Does My Work-at-Home Business Spoil My Children?

Today is Saturday. The day where most of people take a break. Not me. Today is my busiest day. I write articles, ship Ebay items, place orders and market my websites. I have two preschoolers so during the rest of the week I work while they are sleeping at night or napping. (Perhaps you’ve wondered about my night-owl posts). I give my kids six days of “mommy-time” and therefore I am not afraid to admit that I feed my kids cold cereal and prop them in front of the television on Saturday mornings. As I was packaging some Ebay products … Continue reading

Home Business – or Home Based Conglomerate?

I’ve spent the last five years searching for the perfect home business. I am a “frequent-flyer” on just about every internet forum related to work-at-home opportunities. Even when I was working nearly full-time in the direct selling industry, I was still scoping out the “next best thing”. Heaven forbid I miss an opportunity, right? If I’ve learned anything from reading often frantic mothers searching for companies that they can join, franchises that they can purchase or businesses that they can start themselves is that the term “home-business” is often misleading. I think “home-based conglomerate” is a more appropriate term for … Continue reading
