When Technology Becomes Unhealthy

Living in this world of technology, one thing I have noticed is a change in relationships.  Face-to-face interactions happen less often.  It’s easier to shoot out an email or text.  It may feel safer to have a discussion through instant messaging. Instead of talking about our feelings, we are voicing them on Facebook or Twitter.  And rather than enjoying quality time together with our friends, we sit a few feet from each other, tapping away on our devices. This can be not only unhealthy but dangerous.  I’ve seen one of my daughter’s friends fall for a guy she met online.  … Continue reading

Twitter Genealogy Resources for Outside the US

Twitter has more than genealogy resources that are relevant to the United States. You can also find genealogy related links to help extend your research into other countries. If working on your family tree has led you from somewhere in the United States to somewhere else in the world, these links might be useful in helping you learn about your ancestors. Here are some Twitter genealogy resources for outside the United States: @sandngenealogy is the Twitter name for S & N Genealogy. They are located in Chilmark, Wiltshire, in the UK. They tweet links to parish transcripts that have been … Continue reading

More Genealogy Resources on Twitter

Type the word “genealogy” into the “find people” search engine on Twitter, and you get around six pages of results to search through. Not all of them are actually relevant to genealogy, because there are no requirements that state that your Twitter name must match exactly what kind of information you tweet about. This means that you have to sort out the ones that are helpful from the ones that are not useful for you. Here are some more genealogy resources that you can find on Twitter: @geneateach is the Twitter name for a Genealogy Teacher from Chicago, Illinois. While … Continue reading

Twitter is a social networking tool that is used by people all across the world. Headlines were made when people in Iran tweeted about the protests that were going on in response to an election. Twitter has become more than just the website people visit to tell the world what they ate for lunch. It is a resource. Businesses use Twitter to get their name out there. Twitter has links to websites that would be helpful for people who are working on the genealogy of their family. Here are just a few of the genealogy websites that you can follow … Continue reading

Dogs and Cats Who Blog

Do your pets keep a blog? Do they tweet? Do they have a Myspace page? Do they chat with other ani-pals on Facebook (or Dogbook or Catbook)? Writing for your pets can actually be a great creative exercise and imagination outlet. Think about it: you’re writing in a voice that is not your own, imagining what a pet’s daily life is like, and even interacting with other imagined animal personalities. If you’ve got a reluctant writer in the house, writing as a pet might be a good way to go. Twitter is fun for the one-liners — you have to … Continue reading

Twitter Major

Would it be a major deal if your child told you he planned to major in Twitter-nomics in college? Yes, that Twitter. As in: “I can’t talk right now Ma; I’ve got to tweet my peeps, yo!” If you think I’m making this up, then you haven’t seen the recent proposal made by professors at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. A group of educators there are looking to incorporate the soaring popularity of interactive technology such as Twitter and Facebook into an actual four-year bachelor’s degree. “A working title has been Interactive Web Technology Management, but we’re not quite happy with … Continue reading

Twittermania

Okay, call me old, but I am just not into Twitter. Oh sure, I am on there (http://twitter.com/lpelham), but I already have MySpace and Facebook and I usually update my statuses there, why bother with Twitter? And seeing everyone else’s updates like that just seems a bit manic. But, it appears I am alone in not twitting as the rest of the world seems to be in love with it. I blogged a while back about singer Erykah Badu’s childbirth being twitted online, play by play. Now, a Twitter battle is on. Ashton Kutcher is hoping to beat CNN to … Continue reading

Celebrity Twitter Secrets Revealed

Secrets? What secrets? They are the most candid celebrity couple around. Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore have never been shy about expressing their love for one another, but now with technology allowing anyone and everyone the ability to share tidbits of their lives 24/7, the famous husband and wife are giving the public way TMI! Like his star pal John Mayer, Kutcher is a Twitter maniac, and many believe he went too far recently when he posted an intimate photo of his movie star wife in a compromising pose with barely any clothes on. “Watching my wife steam my suit … Continue reading

John Mayer–Twitter Maniac

The reason behind Jennifer Aniston’s split from John Mayer can be summed up in one word: Twitter. According to Aniston’s pals, the sexy former “Friends” star dumped her Grammy-winning boyfriend because he couldn’t stop tweeting. Sources close to the actress tell British tabloids that Mayer ignored Aniston’s phone calls and emails while she was on the road promoting her new movie. Interestingly, though, he had enough time to update his Twitter page up to 10 times a day. One pal dished: “Jen was fuming. There he was, telling her he didn’t have time for her and yet his page was … Continue reading

Erykah Badu Named her Daughter What?

To me Erykah Badu rather falls in the category of Lisa Bonet in my mind. Both seem to walk to the beat of their own drummer. So, I really should be surprised when I read the name of her new baby daughter – Twitty Milk. Erykah (real name Erica Wright) and her boyfriend, rapper Jay Electronica (real name Je’Ri Allah) welcomed their first child together yesterday. Erykah has an eleven year old son, Seven Sirius, from a previous relationship Outkast’s Andre 3000 (real name Andre Benjamin) and four year old daughter, Puma Rose, from a previous relationship with rapper The … Continue reading
