Vermont has the Healthiest Kids

We all want our kids to be healthy! It appears that the state of Vermont is doing very well towards making that hope a reality. Data gathered by the Centers for Disease Control about the Green Mountain State shows that Vermont has the healthiest kids in America. How does what Vermont is doing compare to your state? The Centers for Disease Control’s Data Resource Center released a survey called The National Survey of Children’s Health. It took the results of the survey and presented them in a way that made it more accessible to parents (as well as other researchers … Continue reading

Seven More States Gain Approval for Exchanges

California was not the only state to gain approval for its health insurance exchange today. There were seven other states who also got their exchanges approved by the federal government. This brings the total up to 20! The Affordable Care Act is great big health reform law that has many parts. One requirement is that all states will have a health insurance exchange that is functional and accessible by January 1, 2014. Although the Affordable Care Act was signed in 2010, it is only recently that some states have completed the appropriate work involved to have their exchanges approved by … Continue reading

A Cool Treat for a Hot Celeb

Forget about the life-size statutes, the park benches with engraved plaques and the namesake streets, avenues and boulevards. The one true way you can tell if you have arrived in Hollywood is when you get your own ice cream flavor. I certainly would consider it one of life’s highest honors. Jerry Garcia, Dave Matthews and Phish are among the lucky musicians who have gained the prestigious honor from Ben & Jerry’s and now legendary rocker Sir Elton John is being immortalized in frozen sugar and cream as well. This Friday you’ll get your first chance to dig into “Goodbye Yellow … Continue reading

Summer Travel Tidbits: Roadkill, Reckless Driving and Record High Gas Prices

ROADKILL If you are planning to drive along Illinois highways this summer don’t expect the views to be very pleasant. Unless you enjoy staring at miles and miles of roadkill, you will likely find the drive somewhat… well… gross. According to the state’s transportation department, it simply doesn’t have enough money to pick up as much roadkill as it normally does this time of year because it spent too much of its budget during the winter months. Representatives from IDOT say they spent more than twice the allotted $40 million to clear ice and snow during last winter’s severe storms … Continue reading

If you have a large family then you know how hard it is to find a vacation spot that caters to everyone’s likes. It’s the reason some families forgo ski trips because not everyone in the clan enjoys shooshing down the slopes for five consecutive days. Enter the ski resorts with extras (that’s what I refer to them anyway). They are the places that don’t just offer top-rate skiing, but also have on-site spas, galleries, shops, and restaurants that are just as enticing as the slopes. The following areas are home to some of the world’s best ski slopes, but … Continue reading

Early Season Ski Deals

In my previous blog I told you how I nearly dropped my toast when my daughter started shrieking about the snow that was falling outside our living room window this morning. As I mentioned earlier many ski resorts throughout the United States are already up and running for the season. And to entice skiers who are anxious to make the first tracks on the mountains, many resorts are offering early-season ski packages. Take a look at a … Continue reading
