The Optium Time to Have Children?

Is there an optimum time to have children? Once, people married young and had children young. These days, many couples choose to delay having children and that can cause its own problems as older mothers are more at risk of children with compilations like Downs Syndrome. The other thing is that often women are more involved with their career and are less likely to want to give it up for family. Sadly, many older women are choosing to abort because they see their career as the prime focus. Having children as soon as you are married can also be a … Continue reading

Abortion and Adoption: What Her Mom Did

In my last blog, on talking to my adopted child about the birds and the bees (and the fish!) I promised to share the next big conversation that took place the week after. Meg was perusing a Christian catalog which offered books, games, artwork, and clothing for both children and adults. She came upon a page of products for people in pro-life ministry, especially anti-abortion ministry. These were products such as “little feet” stamps and shirts, bumper stickers and prayer cards with various images and wording, etc. With her newfound reading ability, she read a bumper sticker aloud: “Choose Life, … Continue reading

Week in Review: The Virtuous Wife to God’s Will

This week I shared about the Proverbs 31 woman and how we can strive to be like her, how people can open themselves to Satan’s realm by activities that involve mind submission, the parental role of a mother while she’s pregnant, and what it means to really turn your will over to God. A friend of mine recommended I write a blog on The Proverbs 31 Woman: The Virtuous Wife where I could share ways I have applied her example in my own life. It was a really neat activity to try and helped me to see where I could … Continue reading

The Violence to Young Children Continues

It’s getting so bad that I do not want to read the latest news. A mother left her two year old girl and an almost one year old boy with her boyfriend. He had agreed to bring them to meet her in the store parking lot where she was employed when she got off work. When they picked her up, the mother apparently realized that the little girl was seriously injured. They took her to a local hospital. The hospital immediately “life flighted” her to a trauma center where she died that evening. The cause of death was a brain … Continue reading

Abortion: A Pregnant Mom is Still a Mom

Since nearly the beginning of humanity, there have been problems and people have been faced with circumstances that are not ideal. January 22, 1973 abortion was deemed as a constitutional right for women, justifying the termination of their unborn child should they be faced with unfortunate circumstances or decide they just don’t want to be a mother at the time. I don’t believe for most women the decision to terminate their unborn baby’s life is an easy one. I’ll admit I am grieved by the fact there are clinics that provide the option of a pregnancy termination before offering real … Continue reading

Life isn’t black and white. It’s a million shades of grey.

Being human, we often look at others through the tunnel vision of our own life experience. But it doesn’t take an Einstein to realize that using our own limited vision of life can lead to discrimination, misunderstandings, even hatred. Although we are much more similar than dissimilar, we all have our own unique upbringing. Some of us have had a relatively easy ride, being born into financial comfortability and possessing a stable and encouraging family life. Others are not so lucky. Some children are born into situations which are, quite frankly, almost guaranteed to remove any hope of that child … Continue reading

Teen Abortion: Do Parents Have the Right to Know?

In our country abortion is legal for those over the age of 18, except in South Dakota, which passed a law this year banning abortion except to save the life of a pregnant women. For teenage girls the law varies by state. Some states’ laws say that one or both parents must give permission for a girl under the age of 18 to receive an abortion. In other states the parents must be told 24 hours before the abortion occurs. Then there are the states where no parental permission is needed. Under law parents have legal custody of their child … Continue reading

Abortion: Why I’m Pro-Life

Most everyone can agree, whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, that abortion is a sad thing. The biggest reason I’m not a supporter of abortion has nothing to do with my faith. It has to do with the fact a pregnant woman has a living human life growing in her womb. I believe human life is so precious. Because I believe what the Bible has to say, scripture has led me also to believe abortion is not a good thing. Isaiah tells us, “The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made … Continue reading

“If Only We Had Known…” Couples Sue over Wrongful Life

Is having a special needs child worse than death? Apparently for some parents, it is. A number of couples are now suing their obstetricians for not informing them about testing procedures available during their pregnancy, which would have exposed fetal conditions such as spina bifida. In other words, they lost the opportunity to make an informed choice about continuing the pregnancy. According to the law in many states, physicians must inform expectant couples of all their prenatal testing options. Personally, I don’t blame parents for wanting to know about the health of their unborn child. And prenatal testing can provide … Continue reading
