Changing An Album Kit (1)

What is an album kit? An album kit is a kit that you purchase that come with everything you need to complete one entire album. It contains the album, papers, embellishments and usually contains an idea sheet. The only things you need to supply are your photographs and an adhesive. You might also need a cutter or straight edge scissors to crop your photographs. However, working with an album kit can be a challenge when you first look at it. Often the embellishments and the idea sheets are designed for a certain number of photographs per page, and perhaps you … Continue reading

How Will I Ever Scrapbook All These Photographs?

Organizing your photographs, scrapbooking supplies and tools is only a small, albeit important aspect of scrapbooking. The more organized that you are, the more you will complete. But what about when you take a look at all those photographs and wonder how you will ever get them all done and in albums? Perhaps, if you have been scrapbooking for a long time, you have several albums complete. Some might be bigger and fuller than others, and some might still have a long way to go. Looking around what do you see? Boxes full to the brim, or overflowing with photographs? … Continue reading

Getting Caught Up On Your Layouts

It is so hard to believe that October is here and that the year is almost over. I have no idea where the time goes. I set my goals and it seems that before I know it, I’m rushing to complete them, rather than taking my time to get them done. If you are like most scrapbookers, you probably have a pile of planned layouts or several dozens of photographs that you would like to scrapbook before the end of the year. Or maybe you really are able to find the extra time and commitment that is necessary to get … Continue reading

Organizing All Those Photos

It’s a dilemma all snap happy parents face at one time or another—how to organize the thousands of pictures accumulated from just a month’s worth of shooting. (When you’re a snap happy parent “thousands” is not an exaggeration.) The following are a few strategies I use to help manage my mountain of photos that grows by the day. PURGE—–Know when to hold them… know when to throw them. Not exactly classic Kenny Rogers, but you get the idea. Keep the frame-worthy shots and toss the rest. Don’t hang on to blurry, redundant, unflattering, or bad shots. This strategy is effective … Continue reading

Why Create a Theme Album?

A couple of days ago, I was chatting with a lady, Maylei, on one of my scrapbooking message boards, and was startled when she asked “Why create a theme album, anyway?”. I started thinking about how I was going to answer her, and then realized that there is not a proper answer. There are however, different reasons that scrapbookers choose to do theme albums, and this is a small sampling of the most common reasons. Quick Theme albums are a fairly quick project if you have done your research and selected all of your items before you get started. For … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Week in Review for August 13th-19th, 2007

The scrapbooking blog has always been one of the most popular blogs at families.com. That always makes me smile, since scrapbooking is probably one of my most favorite subjects in the world to talk about. I divide my time into sections so that I am equally sharing it with my family, my job (writing) and my scrapbooking. I often include my family in my scrapbooking endeavors for the simple reason that they love it too. Don’t forget to share those moments with your own families, and include your children in the layout making process. They aren’t professionals, but they will … Continue reading

Monday Layout Challenge – School Layouts and More

Recently I realized that I hadn’t done many scrapbooking pages on my children’s school activities. I have the photographs, the layouts just haven’t been created. So I challenged myself to get to work on those. And I’m not just doing traditional pages, I am branching out, or if you will “stepping outside the box” a bit and trying to find some unique perspectives. I just want the layouts to make the photographs really be the focus as well as trying to complete layouts that are different than the norm. This week’s challenge for all of you, is to pull out … Continue reading

Photography Does Lead to Scrapbooking

Not all photographers agree that photography and scrapbooking go hand in hand. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I disagree. I think that creative, beautiful photographs should be displayed whenever possible, and that eventually you will run out of wall space and table space, so one should consider a scrapbook. But please read on, because it doesn’t mean what you think it means. A scrapbook is a collection of memories. Photographs collect these memories in a visual sense and when displayed can evoke many emotions in an individual. Photographers should definitely entertain the thought of creating a scrapbook. … Continue reading

Portraits and Layouts

Portraits seem to be a challenge for many scrapbookers to turn into layouts. I’m not sure if it is because you are left with so many pictures, a very common complaint. Or if it is because of the many different sizes you receive in a portrait package. Perhaps its because not all portraits are captured at a studio, or you get the shots yourself, and most scrapbookers want to make the perfect layout to go with them. I have no idea what it is, but I am on a quest to make scrapbooking your portraits easier. There are several factors … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Week in Review for July 16th to 22nd, 2007

Lots of great articles and tips have been passed along in the scrapbooking blog this week. As most of you know, I am now also blogging for the photography blog, and educating myself on how to tie these two hand-in-hand blogs together has become a huge goal. While I continue researching articles on both photography tips, and scrapbooking tips, I feel I am becoming better at both. I hope when I begin to share my more recent layouts, you too will agree. Let’s see what went on in the scrapbook blog this week: It’s hot, sticky, wet and just generally, … Continue reading
