Getting Away With Your Spouse

It has been a very long time since my husband and I have gotten away together…without kids. So a few months ago we began planning for our upcoming 20th wedding anniversary. Our destination was Maine. We looked at cottages to stay in, entertainment (such as whale watching) and thought about eating our favorite food, seafood (only much fresher). We dreamed about stepping into the ocean. It was going to be a very romantic getaway. We even planned the dates we would go and my husband began looking at airfare. But then as the months began to pass by, medical bills … Continue reading

Love That Lasts

Sometimes you just see love in the faces and actions of other married couples. Yesterday was such a day for me. Our choir went to sing for the elderly residents in a local nursing home. I looked out a saw one couple. She was nestled close to him and they were holding hands as they listened to us sing. As we sang The Anniversary Waltz she started to quietly sing along, all the time looking at her husband. You got the feeling it didn’t matter a bit that she was old and wrinkled and that he was old and wrinkled. … Continue reading

Celebrating a Second Anniversary as a Pets Blogger

Two years ago today I officially started on with Families.com as one of their newest Pets Bloggers. Ironically enough, two years later on my anniversary date, here I’ve turned in my two weeks notice. (I just realized as I started writing this that I did that on my start date anniversary.) It’s been a good ride, a very fun ride, and an amazingly informative one. I’ll still be around for the next couple of weeks, but I wanted to take a moment and reflect on some of my favorite blogs from the past couple of years. A Few of My … Continue reading

A Year to Remember

I don’t know where it went, but this month I’m celebrating my year anniversary being a Marriage Blogger. Confessions Last year, then managing editor, Heather Long, sent out a notice asking us bloggers if we’d be interested in either changing categories or adding on to any existing ones. I saw Marriage was one she was looking to staff. I’d guest blogged there a couple of times. I was interested in challenging myself. I asked if in addition to Pets I could also be assigned to Marriage. I alternated between jubilation and panic when her answer was, “Yes.” Okay, my wish … Continue reading

The 80 Year Kiss

Take a moment to get to know Frank and Anita Milford who celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary on May 26th (while most Americans were celebrating Memorial Day). The couple attributes the success of their marriages to the ‘little kisses’ they share throughout the day, but especially the ones before bed time. The couple is believed to be the oldest married couple in Britain and Mrs. Milford had some advice for younger couples: Couples these days don’t last long because they don’t take enough time for each other. There just isn’t enough respect. Our advice to young couples would be to … Continue reading

Two Years and One Month of Scrapbooking Articles

Everyone has a dream and when it finally comes true, you might wish for someone to pinch you just to be sure you aren’t actually asleep. Two years and one month ago, I had my own dream and it did come true and here I am all this time later, still loving it! When I accepted the position to write with www.families.com I had no idea that two years and one month later I would still be here. I also had no idea of the opportunities that would present themselves to me during this time. I love writing for this … Continue reading

Celebrating My One Year Anniversary as a Pets Blogger

Happy Anniversary! Not just to me (I officially became a Pets Blogger one year ago this month) but it’s also Families.com’s Second Anniversary this month too. (See Heather Long’s cute All I Want for Christmas… article for more about that.) In the Beginning… When Lisa Pietsch, who was the then Administrator (Heather’s now taken over that post), accepted my application and assigned me to Pets I was floored. I went from being very excited to very nervous. “Can I do it? Will I be able to meet the monthly minimums? What if people don’t like my stuff? What if I … Continue reading

Happy Anniversary – Disney Magic

Wow, I woke up this morning at 4:15 a.m. with a half-formed yelp and a huge sigh of relief. I was dreaming that it was my wedding day again and the woman who did my hair and make-up was there to torture me. I loved getting married and I loved getting married at Disney World, but I started getting ready for the wedding at 4:30 in the morning because they were doing all my bridal pictures at 6 a.m. in the empty Magic Kingdom. Happy Anniversary Today marks 8 years since we tied the knot in Disney World and we’ve … Continue reading

Tarzan and Jane (2002)

Sometimes when a movie is a big hit, the movie makers think, “Well, if we did so well with that one, how about a sequel?” They tried this with “Tarzan and Jane,” and I’m sorry to say, it just didn’t work. Jane has been living in the jungle with Tarzan for a year now, and to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, she wants to plan a special surprise. She meets up with Tarzan’s best friends Tantor and Turk and they discuss ways to commemorate the day. Jane’s ideas all lean toward holding a fancy party, but Tarzan’s friends are quick … Continue reading
