For the Strength of Youth Series: Dress and Appearance

As LDS men and women, our attitude toward our bodies is different than many peoples’. We believe that our bodies are sacred—even temples—given to us as a gift from God. How we choose to clothe and take care of our bodies through our dress standards is an outer expression of our devotion to God and our respect for His gift to us. Dress standards are important in youth, but they’re just as important in adulthood. Modesty in dress is not antiquated or outdated, nor does it make you seem odd. The pamphlet outlines that immodest clothing includes: short shorts and … Continue reading

Dealing With Jealousy – part 2

Yesterday we looked at some reasons for jealousy. But what of you are jealous of someone’s appearance? If you are jealous of another person because of their appearance, stop and analyze your own good qualities. These may include good cheekbones, a smile that lights up your face, expressive eyes, a good figure, a beautiful head of hair, etc. Whatever your best features are, try and make the best of them and draw attention away from those areas you do not consider to be as attractive. When Your Spouse’s Appearance is Slipping

Time, stress, marriage, and children all take a toll on our looks and emotions. There are those few exceptions when we see someone who looks better after aging than before. However, in reality it is just usually that they have taken better care of themselves or have more time and money to spend on themselves than the rest of us. Obsessed by your looks?

Most people are conscious of the way they look. Both the fashion and cosmetic industry is built around people’s image of themselves. The majority of people make an attempt to look as good as they can. It helps them to feel good about themselves. But what happens when this need to look good takes on a life of its own? What happens when we will stop at nothing to change the way we look? Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a condition that probably originated on the same day that mirrors were invented. There probably aren’t too many people who haven’t … Continue reading

Don’t Be a Slouch

Do you remember your mother telling you to sit up straight? Do you remember when she said for you to stop slouching? My mother was always after me and I had absolutely retched posture. You’d think years of dancing and working out would have made a difference, nope, I slouched like a 90-year-old woman with a bent spine. Want to know how badly I slouched? A year and a half ago, proper posture was added to my workout and I gained almost a quarter of an inch in height. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over that. But … Continue reading
