For a Good Marriage, Avoid the Story Telling

Your mother-in-law made a nasty comment and your husband didn’t step in to say something. Or, he forgot to fix the garage door again. You are just so annoyed. So when your best friend calls, you are ready to vent. But when venting turns into story telling, you may be harming your marriage. Here is why. We all tend to do it. You start out complaining about one thing, and before you know it, the story has evolved with details about every single way that your spouse needs to step up and change. Soon a long list of faults emerges … Continue reading

Mormons and Divorce – Part Three: When Sin is Not Involved

We spoke last time about reasons for divorce that involve sin on the part of either the husband or wife. Today I’d like to discuss marriages that fail not because of sin, but for other reasons. Most of the time, when a marriage fails and sin is not an issue, the couple cites “irreconcilable differences” on the divorce decree. This covers a broad spectrum of issues including money problems, sexual problems, no longer wanting to be married, and no longer seeing eye-to-eye on important issues. Murphy’s Surprise Visitor

Back in the middle of September, Murphy got a big treat: a visit from his Aunt Karen and Uncle Michael, who are the parents of his best friend, Tucker. But Karen emailed me this past Tuesday morning and said they were heading back to Jax that day and … Continue reading

How I Became Susie’s Mom

Susie was my best friend in school. We were very close. I spent a lot of time at her house and knew her mom and dad well. They were great parents to her, good role models for me, and I especially enjoyed her mother’s company. Mrs. Wilson was a petite woman, who put on a few pounds over the years, making her appear short and plump. She was rather frumpy in appearance and most certainly reached a point in her life where she dressed only for comfort. Susie and I were fashionable; in tune with the styles of the day … Continue reading

Britney and Paris New BFF

I first heard the news on a national cable network. Then, yesterday, the ladies on ABC’s “The View” weighed in on it during “hot topics. And, just this morning I heard Regis and Kelly chatting about it on their syndicated morning talk show. What is the world coming to? When people in the universe stop to take note of the fact that hotel heiress Paris Hilton has befriended newly separated pop princess, Britney Spears… it warrants a blog. The two blond beauties (Britney just added some new long blond hair extensions to her bob to look more like her new … Continue reading
