Car Seat Safety Following A Car Accident

My family was in a car accident this past week. We were inside our car, which was parked in a Walmart parking lot. I had just finished buckling our infant daughter into her car seat when a car struck us on the driver’s side front door. After getting everyone out of the car, calling 911, and calming our unsettled nerves, I began to consider the lasting impact of the car accident. Would all three of us be sore the next morning? Should I take my daughter to the doctor to be examined? The biggest question on my mind was the … Continue reading

Car Accident With Baby

We got in our first car accident with our baby today. It was very minor, thankfully, but it left me feeling very shaken. Our little dear has been down with a cold for a few days, and we decided a little fresh air would be good for all of us. Since we were running low on groceries, we bundled up and headed to the store. After shopping and loading our bags into the car, I got into the back and began buckling our daughter into her car seat. My husband waited in the front for us to finish, keys in … Continue reading

One Year after Moose’s Car Accident

Today is just a few days past the one year mark of the day Moose slipped his collar, ran off after a cat, and got hit by a landscaping truck. What a year it’s been! I still get a twinge of guilt sometimes, looking at his little tail-less butt and thinking that I could have gotten a harness sooner, or somehow stopped him from darting off after the cat in the bushes. Looking at pictures of Moose before the accident gives me a little pang, too. Over the course of the year, Moose has started twitching his tail muscles when … Continue reading

Nick Bollea and Hulk Hogan: What WERE They Thinking?

Michele and I both have blogged before about the car accident that involved Hulk Hogan’s son Nick and one of his best friends, John Graziano. Nick, who had gotten many speeding tickets before the near fatal car crash, was recently sentenced to 8 months in prison and 3 years probation. John, meanwhile, remains in a hospital bed, where it looks as if he will need constant medical attention for the rest of his life. Now that Nick, 17, has spent a few weeks in jail, it seems that he regrets his decision to accept the guilty plea and wishes he … Continue reading

Jesse and His Girl Hit by a Drunk Driver

If Sandra Bullock’s husband Jesse James were a cat, by my calculations he would only have about five lives left. The “Monster Garage” star has not only survived numerous motorcycle accidents and an attempt last year by some whacked out fan to plow him over with her Mercedes, but now word has it that James has also escaped serious injuries in a drunk driving accident. According to Boston newspapers, Bullock and her husband were hit by an alleged out of control drunk driver last night while being chauffeured to the Massachusetts home they are renting while the actress finishes production … Continue reading

Fallout From the Hogan Crash

In this corner… the family of international wrestling star Hulk Hogan. And in this corner… the family of John Graziano, the 23-year-old former Marine who was critically injured in car crash involving Hogan’s son Nick. Ding. Ding. The smackdown between the two families is getting nasty according to a Florida newspaper, which has been following the painful recovery of the injured Graziano. The young serviceman has been hospitalized since last August when he was a passenger in a car being driven by the pro wrestler’s son Nick Bollea. Since the accident the Bollea family including mom Linda, sister Brooke and … Continue reading

The Ultimate Travel Nightmare

Imagine witnessing a horrific traffic accident, pulling over, then learning that while you were rendering aid to an injured motorist someone else stole your car. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s exactly what happened to two guys in Minnesota recently. Longtime friends Chase Torgerson and Cody Charpentier were driving along a northwestern Minnesota highway when they saw a car fly through the air and crash into a median. According to police reports, the men jumped out to help, and as they were tending to one of the injured victims they saw one of the other passengers from the crashed car hop … Continue reading

It’s Drowsy Driving Prevention Week

Studies show 60% of adult drivers – about 168 million people – say they have driven a vehicle while feeling drowsy in the past year, and more than one-third (or 103 million people) has actually fallen asleep at the wheel. Are you one of them? Regular readers of this blog have read my past drowsy driving experiences (none of them were pretty). And now there’s an entire week dedicated to educating travelers about the dangers of getting behind the wheel without proper sleep. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that 100,000 police-reported crashes are the direct result of driver … Continue reading

Celebrity Weekend Wrap Up

You may not have their fat checkbooks, but I bet you still had a better weekend than the following celebrities. OWEN WILSON Rumors are flying regarding why actor Owen Wilson is still in the hospital today. According to news reports, the 38-year-old “Wedding Crashers” star was taken from his L.A. home by ambulance yesterday morning. Less than 24 hours later a hospital spokesperson announced the actor was in good condition, but refused to release details on why Wilson had to be admitted in the first place. Adding fuel to the media fire was this statement Wilson issued earlier today: “I … Continue reading

Moose’s Bad Luck Continues

On Friday morning, Moose did his patented head-twist and slipped himself free of his collar. Then he spotted a cat in the landscaping and took off. He ran through the bushes and out of my line of sight, towards a nearby side street. A moment later, I heard a loud yelp and Moose came limping back towards me. He got hit by a car. I didn’t see any open wounds, and he didn’t seem to have any broken bones, so we carefully walked back to the apartment and called the vet. They said I should bring him in to get … Continue reading
