Ad or Art Inspiration Challenges

In previous articles I have discussed how artwork, ads and other items are great inspirational pieces for your layouts. Sometimes it might be a mood or the setting, sometimes the colors used in the ad and sometimes it might even be the entire layout of the ad. I thought that perhaps that by seeing some examples of artwork created using an ad or piece of artwork as the inspiration, it might get you in the mood to try the same. Just as an extra thought, often when I am in a scrap rut, I will grab an ad that I … Continue reading

Saturday Layout Challenge: A Love/Hate Relationship

Springtime is officially upon us and the birds are singing and even hatching and we were lucky enough to catch sight of some frog eggs that have been deposited into the pond at the barn. I love this time of year. Fall and Spring are my favorites and that hasn’t changed much in a lot of years. This week’s challenge deals with the things we love (and even the things we don’t love). You have all seen those favorites layouts that have been circulating for the past couple of years. Have you ever done one? If not, now is a … Continue reading

Saturday Layout Challenge: Beyond the Favorites

This layout challenge really has me motivated this week. I have spent the past several months playing around a little in my scrapbooking. I am hoping that these ideas will get you motivated to try some new things too. Today’s Challenge: Your layout challenge for this week is to go beyond the traditional favorites list and look at specifics in your life. For instance, the question has been posed “What is your favorite thing to wear?” Go beyond the normal answer of perhaps “jeans and a t-shirt”, and showcase your favorite pair of shoes, your favorite t-shirt, your favorite hair … Continue reading

Appreciate the Challenge

We talk a great deal here in the Home Business blog about all of the trials, issues, and problems that can arise and be an every-day part of running a home business. Of course, there are plenty of joys and great things about being an entrepreneur and running one’s own business too but we might forget to hone in and celebrate those realities. I have learned in the past few years that even when things are incredibly challenging, it helps to have appreciation for those challenges. By appreciation and being thankful, it keeps me from resisting and helps me to … Continue reading

Saturday Layout Challenge – Inspirations

What a beautiful weekend we are having here in the Midwest. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and it is warm and spring like, finally! All of these nice sights made me start thinking about what inspires me. Why not create a layout about your favorite things that inspire you to be a better person, inspire you to create, inspire you to do whatever it is you do. I am a nature nut, so I tend to get inspired by almost anything outdoors. I thought it would be great if I created a layout showing some of my … Continue reading

Breaking the Rules of Scrapbooking

In an earlier article I touched on there being no rules in scrapbooking. I suppose that isn’t exactly true, because there are certainly some thing you should or shouldn’t do. However, it depends on what your reasoning is behind the creation of that layout. You might make layouts because it is an awesome outlet for your creativity. You might like the ability to express yourself through art, and maybe photography and the freedom to do what you want on your layouts leaves you feeling exuberant. Theres is nothing like the feeling of a masterpiece complete when we have finished a … Continue reading

Getting Through the Tough Processes

Sometimes, life calls upon us to deal with some pretty heavy stuff–whether it is a job change or loss, a long and messy divorce, moving to a new town, or whatever big challenge life has in store for us, usually, there is just no way to get around it. We have to go through the process and the experience in order to get to the other side. It can feel normal and even “healthy” to avoid the really hard stuff. I know that when I was getting started on my own divorce, there were a few days where it was … Continue reading

How Can Reading a Psalm Help You?

Let me give you some ideas of how reading a psalm can sharpen and challenge our thinking. And suggest how to apply it to your life. This morning I read Psalm 57. In verse 1 David pleads with God to be gracious. Why? Because his soul ‘takes refuge’ in God. Is God my place of refuge and the One I run to when trouble comes? Is he yours? Notice David’s confidence in verse 2. He knows exactly where to turn and why to go there. He has confidence in God’s ability to undertake for him. David knew God ‘accomplishes all … Continue reading

Why Must There Be Trials?

As a follow-up to my earlier blog, “Humbled or Picked On,” I’d like to share this scripture: 2 Nephi 2:11 — For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, . . . righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility. What astonishes me is … Continue reading
