Arthur and Friends: The First Almost Real Not Live CD

I loved the Arthur show on PBS. When my children were young enough to watch it, I even found myself humming the reggae sounding theme song. At first I thought it was sad that I was not only listening to, but thoroughly enjoying children’s music. I was relieved to see that it was performed by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. When the Arthur and Friends: The First Almost Real Not Live CD came out, we were thrilled. Not only did it have the catchy theme song, but lots of other fun songs based on the characters and some from … Continue reading

You may have read my preliminary review of “The Sunny Side of the Street,” the new CD from John Lithgow which is set to be released August 29th, 2006. I have always loved John Lithgow’s voice — there is just something about it that has a familiar friendliness to it. However, until I heard about “Sunny Side,” I never even knew that he performed children’s music. Well, I received a promo copy of the CD from those wonderful people at Razor & Tie, and I have to tell you — it’s everything I hoped it would be! “The Sunny Side … Continue reading

For the Kids

Produced along with VH1’s Save the Music Foundation, “For the Kids” is a collection of children’s songs sung by some of today’s popular music artists. Released in 2002, this collection of songs is a great CD for parents to enjoy along with their children. I found it on the rack at my local library and decided to give it a listen. I was pleasantly surprised as my daughter enjoyed dancing to the songs sung by some of my favorite artists. Many already-familiar songs were remade for this CD. In fact, some Muppets tunes are included on this great collection. Cake … Continue reading

Laurie Berkner’s clear voice and bouncy curls have graced children’s music for nearly a decade now. “Buzz Buzz” is the second album that she released. This CD contains Laurie classics such as “Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz),” for which the album is named, “Pig on Her Head,” and “Monster Boogie,” the video for which can be seen on NOGGIN. “Buzz Buzz” offers a great collection of Laurie’s originals, as well as her own arrangements of classic children’s songs. Laurie’s songs are so much fun to listen to and sing. “Monster Boogie” is a favorite of my nephew. He likes when Laurie sings … Continue reading

Children’s Music Boom

As a separate genre from the so-called popular music scene, you would never think that children’s music would become so prevalent so suddenly. Well, apparently children’s music is making a name for itself lately. As of March 2, 2006, the top three albums on the Billboard chart were considered music aimed at the younger crowds. The soundtrack to the recent Disney hit television movie “High School Musical” reached No. 1 in its seventh week. According to “The New York Times” “High School Musical” is the first TV soundtrack to reach a top rating since “Miami Vice” in the mid-1980’s. “Kidz … Continue reading

Victor Vito

We all know Laurie Berkner as the bouncy, curly-haired singer of NOGGIN fame. Did you know that she has four CD releases? One of her CD’s is entitled “Victor Vito” and was released in 1999. Many songs were inspired by some of Laurie’s preschool students. I recently bought this CD because my daughter and I were going on a four-hour trip and I needed to buy some music for her. I already knew of Laurie Berkner from NOGGIN and her new DVD “We Are…The Laurie Berkner Band,” and her music was already becoming a favorite of my daughter. I knew … Continue reading
