Is it Time for a Change of Direction?

The New Year brings fresh inspiration to professionals of all types. It is natural to wonder whether this will be the year that you achieve some of the things that you have been dreaming of for a long time. When you own and operate your own business, there is always a sort of tension between plugging away at your work just like you have been and mixing things up a little to try something new. If your business is still in business, you are doing something right. Whatever you have got going on, it is working. It may not be … Continue reading

Making Decisions with God’s Guidance

How do you decide what you should do with your time, or what tasks you should take on in your church? Since we’ve been in our new house on the South Coast and even for a time before we moved, my husband and I have been praying that God will clearly show us what He would have us do in our new church and in this community and show us those activities he would have us be part of. Hospitality was one area we identified as one God asking us to work on. That we make our home available for … Continue reading

General Conference From the Past: “Look to God and Live”

In October 1978, Elder Carlos E. Asay of the Quorum of the Seventy gave a talk entitled “Look to God and Live.” In this talk, he described the importance of keeping our gaze focused on Christ. In doing so, we, too, might look to our Father in Heaven and receive eternal life. Elder Asay provides various stories, in and out of the scriptures. He begins by speaking of a man who had sunk low. Involved in drinking and in drugs, this man always kept his head low, focused on the feet of those around him. Said Elder Asay, “this alcoholic … Continue reading

You’re Not the Boss of Me!

This is actually one of my favorite phrases of childhood. I can remember saying it myself on numerous occasions and, I admit that there are still times when I feel myself balking at being “told what to do” by someone and I want to bark, “You’re not the boss of me!” In my own family, my three strong-willed children have often bucked and resisted having anyone tell them what to do—whether it was a parent, sibling, or other authority figure. It seems to be natural for our children to want to be in charge of their own choices and their … Continue reading

God’s Will: On the Road of Life

While on the telephone with my aunt, she shared with me an inspirational passage from a book she’s been reading from Karen Kingsbury’s Redemption series called Reunion. The character paints this picture of turning our will over to God like being a passenger in a car and allowing God to drive. Though we might not know whether He’ll go left or right, we know in the end we’ll arrive at our destination if we let him drive. I was encouraged by the excerpt she read since it helped me put perspective on what it means to allow the will of … Continue reading

The Prayer of Jabez: Be With Me

“…that Your hand would be with me,…” Perhaps after asking God to bless you and to increase your territory, you are feeling a bit overwhelmed. You just can’t do it all by your own power and need your mighty Father’s hand to help you. Recognizing the need for the Lord’s hand in your life is such an important step in your walk toward abundant living. As acknowledged in: Joshua 4:24, “…that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the LORD, that is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever.” Isaiah 59:1, “Behold, the … Continue reading

One Life to Live: Making the Most of Your Life

I feel like the title of my blog sums up my point. How do you make the most of every day? Forget your past for now. I want you to think about where you are currently with God. Sometimes it’s easy to let our past dictate where we are going. God is capable of meeting you right where you are at and transforming you into who He wants you to be if you’ll allow Him. If you’ve felt your life has lacked purpose or it feels like you’re lacking direction, please don’t fret. Make the decision that your life is … Continue reading
