Disney Movies on Home Release This Spring

Disney fans take note: the company has released the list of movies due out on home release this spring.  It’s a combination of films out of the vault, first time home releases, and TV on DVD.  First up, coming out last week, is “Peter Pan.”  In honor of the film’s 60th anniversary, this is Disney’s first Diamond Edition and Blu-Ray release of the classic.  Another famous Peter also hit the shelves this week: Peter Parker, in “Ultimate Spider-Man: Avenging Spider-Man.”  It’s one of the Marvel cartoons Disney’s currently producing. This week, in anticipation of its prequel’s June release, “Monster’s Inc.” … Continue reading

The Vault Opens: Mowgli Returns to DVD

In 1894, Rudyard Kipling began publishing The Jungle Book based on his experiences in India and the tales that he heard there. The tales follow a boy named Mowgli through a lush and colorful world where animals are anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The popularity of these stories have inspired many movies over the year, the most well known – of course – being the 1967 Disney animated film: the Jungle Book While many cite the liberties that Disney took with the story, the animated film does inspire others to discover the original tales by Rudyard Kipling – I … Continue reading

Disney Reconsiders Releasing “Song of the South” on DVD

Have you ever seen Disney‘s “Song of the South”? I haven’t and unless you’re a lot older than I am you likely haven’t either. However, you’ve probably heard of tales of Br’er Rabbit and gang, as well as heard the famous song “Zip a Dee Doo Dah”. To offer a brief synopsis (gleaned from my own readings of Uncle Remus’ tales and other online summaries … Continue reading

Where In The World Is “Song of the South”?

There are very few movies that have caused me to spring forth tears like a fountain in the middle of Epcot Center. However, those few are there and they range all over the gamut of genres. One such film was Song of the South. My Mom took me to see this film when I was probably 7 or 8, just as she took me to see most Disney re-releases: fresh in the theatre. As a child, I fell in love with the character of Uncle Remus. I wanted to talk to him and hear his stories for myself. When little … Continue reading

What is the Disney Vault?

If there’s anything that makes Disney and film fans alike frustrated, it’s the Disney Vault. Exactly what is this vault and what does it means when a film is placed inside of this mysterious vault? First of all, the vault isn’t actually a vault, but a process. While I’m certain that Disney does keep some things vaulted such as original prints and cels, to believe that these films are being drug out of a large vault every time they are re-released is incorrect. When a film is vaulted, the studio simply places a moratorium on the film and halts production … Continue reading
