Scrapbooking: Three Rules of Threes

Yes, scrapbooking has rules! Did I lose a lot of you with that? Rules are, of course, made to broken (in scrapbooking, anyway!), but the rule of threes has served artistically-challenged-me well. Things look better in threes, whether they’re embellishments, photos, or colors. Your page design should lead the eye to three different spots, usually a triangle. Let’s say that you have a photo that you really like and want to include, but your subject is wearing a bright pink shirt. All the other photos that you want on the page have people in earth tones. Don’t despair! You can … Continue reading

More Places To Find Scrapbook Stuff

As I mentioned yesterday, sometimes you can find supplies in places that weren’t made for scrapbookers. Some stores now have small scrapbook sections or carry items that might not be for scrapbooking but could easily be adapted and used. Here are three more obscure places to find scrapbook supplies. Dollar Stores This is one of those things that you might get lucky, but then you might strike out. We have several dollar stores in our area that have a very small scrapbook section, however what they offer usually isn’t found anywhere else I’ve seen. I’ve gotten some cool packs of … Continue reading

Outgrown Clothes Make Great Craft and Scrapbook Embellishments

All children out grow clothes quickly. Do you have piles that don’t fit anymore? Some that might be stained or torn? Missing a button maybe? Don’t toss them. Use them for your scrapbook layouts. Recently we held a garage sale, and are planning a second here this weekend. We have to get rid of a lot of stuff because we are getting ready to sell our home and move. While going through the basement I came across loads of clothing. All had been outgrown and most was in excellent condition, folded neatly in boxes and awaiting a new owner. But … Continue reading

Try a New Technique: Overlapping Layout Elements

Scrapbooking is full of new ideas and techniques to try. One of my favorite new techniques that I have been incorporating into my layouts is overlapping elements. For example, I put journaling over photos or layer embellishments onto of my photos to add some additional interest. Here are a few of my favorite reasons why you should try to add some layering to your layouts: Adds Visual Interest. When you have a few elements overlapping, it will give the viewer more to study and look at. Allows More Space for More Photos. If you plan on layering journaling or embellishments … Continue reading

Biggest Scrapbooking Mistakes – Embellishment Overload

There is nothing worse than finishing a scrapbook page, feeling slightly happy about being able to fit that last charm on the page, and taking a total look at the page and seeing – embellishment overload. With all the great new embellishments available in the scrapbooking world, and all the items we use that weren’t originally created for scrapbookers, it’s so hard not to get carried away. However, scrapbookers need to remember, that embellishments are not the focal point on the page. The photographs are and should be. Obviously scrapbooking is different for everyone, and for some it is nothing … Continue reading

Creative Uses for Eyelets and Brads

Brads and eyelets have been a staple embellishment in the scrapbooking world for years. I know some people have considered eyelets to really be out of style since they were so loud to set on the page. Things are changing and I have noticed lots of eyelets and brads being used on layouts. I would like to share some ideas I have see and thought up that are fun ways to incorporate brads and eyelets into your pages. Create a frame around your picture. This is a fun way to really highlight your photo and help it “pop” off the … Continue reading

Biggest Scrapbooking Uh-Oh’s part two

Continuing our discussion of our biggest regrets and blunders we’ve made in our daily scrapbooking, I have a few more to add. You might have different ones, and you might have similar ones, but regardless, we’ve all made them. Silhouettes – Oh how I remember good old silhouettes and I certainly did plenty of them. Often times mine looked like they were coming out of the side of the page or something equally as disturbing. Embellishment Overload – This is something I think many still fall into the trap with. With so many new embellishments as well as types of … Continue reading

With school just around the corner for some, what better of a time to share some of the cute supplies you can use on your school layouts.
