Cabbage Soup Diet Explanation and Meal Plan

What is the Cabbage Soup Diet? The name alone defines the diet.  It really is that simple.  It is a diet where you basically eat cabbage soup in an attempt to lose weight fast.  The diet is not recommended by anyone with a medical background or interested in healthy weight loss because it is a short term fix for a long term problem.  It also puts the dieter in a position of eating dangerously low calories.  Exercise is not recommended on this diet due to the low calorie intake. The claim is that one will lose 10 pounds in 7 … Continue reading

Fad Diets: The Grapefruit Diet or New Mayo Diet

(This diet has no connection to the Mayo Clinic.) This diet promises that you’ll lose 52 pounds if you follow it properly for 10 weeks. Most of us can lose about that much by exercising every day and replacing a fatty meal with a salad every day but there seems to be more attraction to following a rigid diet like this. There are lots of rules to this diet: * As with all diets, you must drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water every day. Low Sodium Cabbage Soup Diet

With all the fuss about Jaime Pressly using this diet to take off her baby weight, I thought this would be a timely addition. The first time I tried the Cabbage Soup Diet, I used the original version that calls for Onion Soup Mix and Bouillon which are both high in sodium. When I was a teen, I used this fad diet extensively. In fact, it is one of the many reasons why my metabolism got so out of whack and that I eventually managed to weigh over 260 pounds. The Three Day Diet instructions are … Continue reading

The Atkins Diet – Fad or Fact?

Of the ‘fad’ diets of the world, one of the most maligned and misunderstood, the Atkins diet has run the gamut from derision to front-page coverage with health experts finally agreeing. So why has Atkins gone from fad to fact? Initially, when Robert Atkins proposed his revolutionary diet plan, the world was all about low fat or fat free. The idea of ignoring the fat content and eliminating carbohydrates flew in the face of everything dieters of the time understood. Physicians resisted the Atkins Diet because they were concerned about how nutritionally unsound it is to eliminate one third of … Continue reading

Weight Loss – Fad Diets

What defines a fad diet? How do you recognize that a diet is a fad? Is there anything legitimate about fad diets? This is the first entry in a series that will discuss fad diets, including the specifics about fad diets like the Blood Type Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet and the Caveman Diet. Yes, before you ask, those are all real names of real diets that are advertised to provide dieters with fast, measurable results. Unfortunately, there are a lot of diets out there that promise a lot of results, but fail to deliver for any number of reasons. … Continue reading
