Setting Fitness Goals with a Pedometer

There are many different ways you can set fitness goals for the New Year.  One is by using a pedometer. What I love about these is you can pick them up for as little as $10.  But you can certainly spend much more on a nicer model. One type of goal you might want to set is taking 10,000 steps a day.  If that sounds like too much, you can reduce the amount. Some people like to figure out the average number of steps they take and then set goals from that.  The best way to do this is calculate … Continue reading

End of May Fitness Goal Checklist

It’s the last day of May and it’s time to look back at the month behind us. I think it’s important that we take a day to self-assess where we are and where we’re going. Rather than waiting for the end of December 2008, let’s take a moment to check out how we are doing right now: How are your goals going? Have you started working towards achieving them? Are you encountering obstacles in your path? What are the obstacles? Are you discouraged or are you challenged? Are you still striving towards your goals? Have you made it to the … Continue reading

Exercise Haters Anonymous

Do you hate exercise? Would you attend a meeting for exercise haters anonymous? Do you feel ashamed of the fact that you hate exercise, but not enough to push yourself into an exercise program? Do your palms get sweaty when other people talk about personal trainers? Does your heart race when you hear people making plans for hitting the gym? Well, relax. To be perfectly honest, exercise in and of itself doesn’t sound appealing. If you live in a world where you are constantly crunching time and finding five minutes to yourself is an onerous task, then trying to set … Continue reading

The Fitness Blog Week in Review for May 27 – June 1

We’ve been a bit crazed around here in the fitness blog, but that’s to be expected with the summer time and outdoor activities ramping up. More of us are leaving the gym and heading outside to ride bikes, go swimming, play ball and more. So let’s take a quick run down our week in review. Sunday, May 27 National Senior Fitness & Health Day happens in May and is celebrated every year. Monday, May 28 In Women’s Fitness: Target Your Hips we look at how we can target specific areas of the body to get the weight off. Have You … Continue reading

Spruce Up Your Fitness Routines

We’re having a garage sale this weekend. We’re cleaning out all the clothes that no longer fit my daughter and we’re putting out for sale everything from shoes to pants to dresses and more. We’re cleaning out cupboards in the kitchen too and selling a dish set that we never use and much more. You can do more to clean up your fitness act than just cleaning out the closets. Let’s talk about how we can give our fitness routines a spring/summer spruce and get rid of the parts of your routine that aren’t doing it for you anymore. How … Continue reading

Your Self-Image Defines Your Success

I talk a lot about motivation and goal setting, I think it’s important to keep in mind that if you believe in yourself, anything is possible. I know that sounds exceptionally cliché, but remember – in every cliché there is a root of truth. Clichés become clichés because those truths are proven again and again. So when I say that your self-image will help you define your success, I mean that literally as well as figuratively. If you see yourself as a failure, that is what you will be. If you see yourself unable to overcome your challenges, then you … Continue reading

Fitness Goals – The Long & The Short of It

We talked about stimulating your routines yesterday so we can get out of the mid-summer fitness slump. Today, we’re going to discuss our fitness goals. We do monthly check ups here and we’ve even set up a month long exercise regimen with our Spring Forward to Action Challenge. In August, I’d like to host a back to school challenge and invite readers to post their goals, stories and successes – but let’s do this one-month at a time. Take some time today to evaluate your personal fitness goals. We begin by throwing out the expectations of others. If you’ve been … Continue reading

Making Monday: My Day

Mondays get a bad rap. In fact, Monday’s bad rap is so bad that it is the day more children miss school than any other and the day more employees miss work than any other – whether they are really ill or not. The simple fact is – Monday is a huge let down after the weekend. We see it as the day that the fun stops and the work begins. This isn’t just based in reality – I run a home-based business. I set my own hours. I work for clients and myself. I write here and share my … Continue reading

Fitness Anniversaries and Goal Setting

Wow, July 1, 2006 – it’s hard to believe but 1 year ago today, I ramped up my fitness program to include a 90 minutes per day hard pushing walk on the treadmill. I got up every morning by 4:45 a.m. and did my 90 minutes, pausing at the end for a ten-minute cool down, shower, change and then to work. It was a hard and arduous process – but within two weeks – my energy levels were soaring and by the first week in August – I was feeling great. In honor of my one year anniversary, I wanted … Continue reading

Building a Better You

Who defines a better you? That’s right – you define what makes a better you. Too often we get caught up in all the hype about what it means to workout, be healthy and exercise. We’re told day in and day out that we’re too fat as a country. We’re too fat individually. We’re too lazy. We’re too something else – but it’s really not up to all these experts – it’s not up to your neighbors and it’s not up to your family and it’s certainly not up to the jock down the street – building a better you … Continue reading
