Man Fired for Same-Sex T-Shirt

Remember when everyone raised such a stink over Chick-fil-A when CEO Dan Cathy was critical of same-sex marriage in an interview in 2012?  People called for Chick-fil-A boycotts while others promoted a Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. Well, the same-sex marriage issue is definitely controversial still.  Oh sure, President Obama said during his recent inauguration speech, “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law – for it we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well.” And, he became the first … Continue reading

Fidelity Ruins Marriages?

I realize that for many, there is much to be celebrated about since New York passed its same-sex marriage bill which will allow for gay marriage to be legal starting on July 24, 2011. But do we really have to start tearing down the traditional marriage? That is exactly what happened in a recent article that appeared in the “New York Times.” It was written by a homosexual sex-advice columnist, Dan Savage. He said that fidelity destroys more marriages than it saves (I would like to see the statistics on that one). Yes, you read that right. It is the … Continue reading

William Shatner and George Takei Spar over a Wedding Invitation

George Takei, better known to Trekkies as Mr. Sulu from the popular, but short lived Star Trek series from the ’60s, recently got married. After California decided to uphold the ruling that same-sex couples have the right to marry, Takei and his partner of 21 years, Brad Altman, decided to make it legal on September 14, 2008. They had a wedding ceremony at the Japanese American National Museum. They were joined by fellow Star Trek co-stars Walter Koenig (Chekov), who served as the best man and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura), who was the Matron of Honor. Sounds lovely, doesn’t it? Two … Continue reading

Marriage Types: Same Sex

As previously discussed, all marriages are not the same. There are many different levels of commitment, love, and bondage when it comes to a couple’s marriage. My final marriage type will be discussed in this article. So far, we have examined covenant, polygamous, later life, young, long distance, and choosing childless marriages. While all of the marriages listed above were different to some degree, they all also had one factor in common. All of the marriages above consisted of a union between a man and a woman. Today’s marriage type is different in that its union takes place between two … Continue reading

Gay Marriage Legal Again in California

In what some will see as victory and others defeat, the California Supreme Court made history today when it overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage. What Does It All Mean? First and foremost, there are a lot of gay couples rejoicing right about now. This was an enormous decision which ultimately resulted in triumph for the gay rights movement. Second of all, and perhaps most importantly and which will cause those opposed to gay marriage the most distress, is that the ruling sets a precedent. Domestic Partners vs. Married: Rights California already allowed same-sex couples domestic partner rights, as … Continue reading

In the News: Did Michigan Overreach on Marriage v. Unions?

It seems that most people who don’t agree with gay “marriage” don’t really have a problem with domestic partnerships or benefits related to such unions, at least in a general sense. Such partnerships for most are meant to cover relationships from same sex unions to long-term roommates, cohabitating heterosexual couples, and even relatives who share their lives together and seek benefits. Perhaps the Michigan legislation went too far in attempting to use strong language that left no wiggle room. It is understandable that those who defend marriage would want to construct laws or amendments in a way that cannot be … Continue reading

Ask a Marriage Blogger: Isn’t Advocating for Gay Marriage Out of Line?

Your recent blog regarding gay marriage made it very clear that you advocate for gay marriage and that anyone who disagrees with that is prejudiced or a bigot. You write about how to take care and protect and strengthen your marriage and then you endorse a lifestyle that attacks marriage and wants to destroy it. Why? Isn’t this a site that promotes traditional family values? How is gay marriage promoting traditional values? Should you be ashamed of giving so much coverage to this issue? These are just two of the notes that I have received in the last week since … Continue reading

Words have Meaning

For readers who believe in defending traditional marriage, don’t worry. You have every right to think, feel, and yes, say what you believe. Don’t feel obligated to comment here. Just know it. Look, even Heather says you’re entitled to your opinion: “First and foremost, understand that I respect the rights of everyone to have an opinion and a position.” Yet, there is a caveat. You have that right, but if you don’t agree with gay “marriage” then your opinion is just prejudice and bigotry and that’s all it is. There is no other word for it, in Heather’s opinion. It’s … Continue reading

Will Gay Marriage Be on the Ballot in Massachusetts in 2008?

As the state of Massachusetts prepares to begin a state constitutional convention, it seems pretty clear that they will avoid voting whether or not to place gay marriage on the ballot in 2008. While many believe that there are plenty of votes to get the issue on the ballot, based on positions publicly declared by lawmakers, it seems that some lawmakers would rather not have to decide. Gay rights activists are encouraging Democratic lawmakers to pressure colleagues that they work closely with to change their votes if a vote should occur. At this point, legislators are saying they have too … Continue reading
